Bill, you might want to get a Nook or a Kindle. Those will soon be the only way to get a book that isn't sold at Target or Walmart. Independent booksellers will soon only exist in high traffic urban centers and the bigbox booksellers will either go belly up or online only. Dead tree publishing is on its way out.

I figured BAM was on borrowed time.. nothing ever really seemed to change there. Adapt or die.

If you're selling a product for which there is a limited demand, you damn well better savor and celebrate every warm body that walks in the store. Service at this location was terrible. Too few employees (I went in one morning to find one employee, a young girl, too busy whipping up some kind of coffee frufru to sell me something; I left a stack of books and magazines on her bartop and left) with sad expressions and pitiful attitudes. I really like books and book stores, I hope this "customer service" is the reason they closed up shop.

Was she whipping up that coffee frufru for another customer? Maybe you should have waited your turn.

I hate to see another book store close. but service there did suck. and honestly e-readers are popular enough that more book stores are going to be closing. I just have not fount an e-reader with the features/price that I want...yet.

She was whipping up three coffee frufrus for other customers while I waited. I asked about checking me out, and she indicated that she was the only one in the store and I'd have to wait. I waited almost five minutes and left. I had their little "frequent-buyer's card", too, which I tossed in their garbage can on the way out. Back to Amazon.com for me.

You couldn't wait five minutes? So you order your books from Amazon.com, pay shipping; then wait five to seven days to get the books? Doesn't make sense to me.

My guess is that you don't use amazon, sarahm.

I get books (and other stuff) at a discount without having to buy a card, pay no shipping, and, thanks to a schweet deal with a former governor, still pay no sales tax. Plus, don't have to deal with crass hired-help.
It's a better value and well worth the wait.
I was trying to make an impulse purchase which I had no business making anyway.
It's all good.

Everybody KNOWS it's not true unless it comes off the Internet, preferably via a confidence-violating, ex parte caddy third party

Most "dead tree" publishing today is Indie authors. Ironically most those authors are usually fall into the "green movement" crowd.

No Yoda, I use Amazon; usually for hard to find books. I really love browsing the bookstores and hate to see one close.

that's the problem. most people are just browsing. Bookstores have turned into libraries.

Anyone here going to Club Lib tonight? It's a really fun money raiser for the library. You've never seen the library like this before!

I can't decide whether to wear the nun stuff or not. I don't feel particularly holy today...yet!

More in the mood. Halloween sweater or nun? I've been doing the nun thing for over 10 years, but with new outfits, thanks to Beauty and the Beast!(Thank you Susan!)

And THAT explains why I tend to stay out of Books-a-million. Much too tempting.
