Delhaize America will close 13 of its Food Lion stores across the Tennessee Valley. The company announced late Wednesday night it will close 113 under performing stores across the country and cut 4,900 jobs. According to Delhaize's website, the closings are due to low revenue and an increase in competitive activity. Delhaize has more than 1,600 stores in 16 states. I really hated to hear that one. That's where I shopped. I don't like BiLo or Publix. I refuse to go to WalMart. So................... Now where? Yep, you have my permission to tell me where to go.

Not quite - it appears the one in East Ridge at Ringgold Rd & McBrien is staying open.

BiLo usually seems to have a wider and often selection of produce, usually more expensive then Publix-true of most prices. BL's meats are noticeably inferior. Publix has better and fresh seafood. My local BL-E. Brainerd, never has sale stickers up before mid-afternoon, necessitating carrying the flyer around and double checking.

All told, seven of the 20 local Food Lions will stay open: E. Ridge, Ringgold, Chickamauga, Dalton, Rocky Face, Calhoun and Cleveland (Stuart Rd store).

I'll just keep shopping at Aldi's. The produce is better & less expensive than Bi-lo's & it takes a lot less time to shop there than most grocery stores.

Not quite - it appears the one in East Ridge at Ringgold Rd & McBrien is staying open. Figured that would be the first one on the chopping block. It seems to always be empty...

I hate it for the folks who worked there, but our local FL (Hixson Pike @ Ashland terrace) did not have a lot going for it and has a BL right down the street and one over the hill on Dayton Blvd.

When 20/20 ran that piece on Food Lion and the measures they took to make Gross margin. Like bleaching seafood to knock the smell down, repacking brown meat after cutting the rancid areas off etc...I quit shopping their. BI-LO with the fuel perks the only way to fly, Filled up 2 cars one a lincoln for $17.46..Wal-Mart pricing is deceptive no cheaper than BI Lo. Aldi got to work to damn hard to buy groceries, buy bags, rent the cart, bag them yourself, while the cashier sits on their fat ass. Usually one register open

Reckon Food Lion is still interested in buying BiLo? They'd better hurry...

There is only one Food Lion in Gwinnett County and it is only a couple of miles from my house. I like it. The prices are lower than Publix and Kroger on most items, their store brand products are of good quality and the store isn't usually as crowded as the other local stores. It's closing.

Highland Plaza store hours are 8am to 6pm already. It may be they have already began the closing process there.

I always liked to go to my local one (East Brainerd) when I had a medium amount of packaged items to buy, like soda or lunch meat, dog food, bacon or beer, but I would never buy beef or produce there. Last time I bought ground beef it started to turn a sickly grey and smell bad a day after I bought it, a full two days before the sell by date. Hate to see them go, they were never crowded (I'm sure the reason why it's closing) and they had very good prices, especially with the MVP card. I just home something comes in and fills the void, I hate to see empty storefronts.
