You might want to take out your warmest winter coat. The next several days will bring snow, wind and cold temperatures to the Chattanooga area. Snow showers will start in the area this afternoon and are expected to end before sunrise Friday, WRCB-TV Channel 3 Chief Meteorologist Paul Barys said. There's a pretty good chance that the valley areas will get at least flurries, Barys said, while higher elevation areas could see up to an inch of snow. Northwest Georgia and parts of Polk County, Tenn., have a winter weather advisory in effect from 7 p.m. today to 7 a.m. Friday, and Sequatchie, Marion and Bledsoe counties in Tennessee have a winter weather advisory in effect from 4 p.m. today until 7 a.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. This advisory means that snow is expected or occurring but accumulations are expected to be light. Read more at www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012/jan/12/wintry-mix-is-forecast-for-tonight/

I already have plenty of milk and bread, so I'm good.

Kerosene, wood for fireplace, coleman stove. Only problem would be dealing with drivers who freak-out at the mention of (shudder) snow.

I'm good. If I have to, I can walk to the store.

It's been too warm. Won't amount to anything.

the annual "milk & bread" jokes really need to stop. it's completely nonsensical.
nobody goes to the store to buy just milk & bread. People do overreact to the forecast of potential bad weather but nobody is stocking up on milk & bread.
it's really quite simple. People regularly go to the store. When they go to the store generally milk & bread are on their list. For many people the next store trip is never too far off. If there is a threat of bad weather these people decide to make their store run before the weather gets bad. It's actually a pretty smart decision.
Considering the short shelf life for both milk & bread grocery stores don't stock for this kind of patronage. The end result is simple supply & demand. Which is true w/ plenty of other perishables @ any given store.

Even with a loss of power, we will be well fed and have entertainment. I'm from Buffalo and know how to survive. The biggest part is not to worry. Be prepared and relax.
Guess where it snowed the most in the continental United States in 1967? Oswego, NY - 175 inches in 48 hours. I was there. The trouble with cold weather here is not the snow, its the ice on the roads. The ice is so thin that no snow tire or chains will help. Best to stay home and read a good book. Oh, stupid as it might seem, you might need a charcoal grill.

Being from Buffalo requires survival skills in and of itself (says a boy from Syracuse). Grills are good. Lanterns, too.

BS has obviously never worked in a grocery or convenience store.
The first thing people buy when snow is on the teevee is milk and bread.
For me, I just picked up a fresh bottle of agave and have plenty of tobacco and sandwich meat on hand, I just hope the snow melts before the tequila I picked up spoils...

Don't forget to have the propane alway full for the gas logs. Warm dogs also help. The funniest winter story happened when I was a small child living in Marion IN. Dad laughed one morning and told Mom that the kids could walk to school. It was getting up to 32 degrees - - - - - - - - - below zero. We traded extreme cold for extreme snow.

Thankfully, the beer and cigarette aisles, at all stores, were fully stocked.
I feel prepared for anything!

Don't smoke and don't drink beer. I have warm dogs, gas logs, gas grill, and a camper with gas heat if things get really bad. Also, a battery operated DVD player. Yeah, I'll be OK without power for over a week. Of course, that won't happen. Just gotta think of some mischief for tomorrow. Maybe maybe, gosh, throw mud pies at passing motorist. No, that would just get me in trouble. How about, watching "1408". Ever see that movie??

If you took a hike on Stringer's Ridge (seeing as how you work so close) you might find more...
