When 30-year-old Daniel Hurst was located by authorities, he had crashed his 1998 Jeep Cherokee into a ditch on Standifer Gap Road. Reeking of alcohol, he failed field sobriety tests and was hit with his third DUI in six years. But he failed to show up for court and was later tracked to Anchorage, Alaska. The cost to bring him back before a Hamilton County judge? A little more than $4,300, which included expenses for two Hamilton County Sheriff's Office detectives' meals and lodging, according to county finance records. www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012/feb/27/chattanooga-fugitive-returned-cost-4000/

Wonder why not many people are aware of this degenerate's rap sheet?

Next time you deputies want a raise, think again. Fines and Court Costs must be a great investment. $4000.00 what's the return for the tax payer?

The point that criminals will pay for their crimes, maybe?

I think the cops ought to pay for their own patrol car's gas and any expenses accrued in carrying out a Judge's lawful order should come out of the cops' paycheck. The cost of prosecuting and defending alleged criminals should also come out of their salaries. Corrections officers should have to pay for the roof over their heads while guarding prisoners, too.
Brilliant ideas. Think of the savings!

I agree and they should. Throwing good money (ie..tax money) to go get some bad money that we now will never be paid back makes no sense. Felony with loss of life no problem. $4300 to go get a 3x losing drunk. DA must be a drunk and or helps himself to the evidence room. Let's ask Skillern what he thinks he'll have someones lying ass over this right? right?
According to the article it was the DA not the judge who ordered this. Maybe since we have a new judge coming in we'll get someone with common sense.

I think you should just let every criminal go, unless you can make a profit by arresting him.

They do Bradley County Clerk of Courts handed over 4.5 million to the general fund from fines and court costs. It's a profit center.
So should we spend 4000.00 to get the dude who skipped on his traffic citation? Hell it's only money we obviously have plenty of it why's everyone bitching were broke. Couldn't even afford the let the cops take home their patrol cars in the same county but we have 4300.00 to go get a drunk driver WTF

Well, if we actually prosecuted and punished people, it would. If word gets out that all you have to do to avoid prosecution is skip town and no one will bother to track you down, crime will rise. And that will cost far more than bringing these guys back. Of course, if you bring them back, then let them go again with a slap on the wrist, then it doesn't do you much good at all.
