A surging Rick Santorum is running even with Mitt Romney atop the Republican presidential field, but neither candidate is faring well against President Barack Obama eight months before Americans vote, a new survey shows. Obama tops 50% support when matched against each of the four GOP candidates and holds a significant lead over each of them, according to the Associated Press-GfK poll. Republicans, meanwhile, are divided on whether they'd rather see Romney or Santorum capture the nomination, with Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul lagging behind. It's a troubling sign for the better-funded Romney as the GOP race heads toward crucial votes in his home state of Michigan, in Arizona and in an array of states on Super Tuesday, March 6. "I'd pick Santorum, because it seems Romney may be waffling on a few issues and I'm not sure I trust him," said Thomas Stehlin, 66, of St. Clair Shores, Mich. He thinks the Detroit-born son of a Michigan governor is facing a strong challenge from Santorum in his home state because of his tangled answers on the auto industry bailout. www.wrcbtv.com/story/16988925/poll-santorum-surges-obama-leads-republicans

I am still hoping Newt gets the nomination. That would be a more entertaining race to the WH. Santorum lacks substance. All he has driving him is his loathing of the Constitution granting people the right to not be his sort of Christian. At least Newt is amusing.

All he has driving him is his loathing of the Constitution granting people the right to not be his sort of Christian. i'm not sold on santorum, but i really don't understand where the above sentiment comes from. he's an outspoken Christian, but has he ever suggested that his beliefs should be forced on anyone? he's said he disagrees with contraception, but he has also said that he would never support legislation to take away a woman's right to use it. he mentioned satan in a speech at a religious university in 2008 and somehow that makes him unfit to be POTUS. i could understand all of the outrage if he was proposing any of the stuff that's been attributed to him.

It isn't so much in what he's saying or what he's calling for as it is in his criticism of things like Griswold vs. Connecticut. He's personally not for codifying his Christian beliefs as the law of the land but he believes the states certainly have a right to do so.

The fact that this is the first post I've seen about griswold vs connecticut tells me that you are wrong. If that was a big factor, then it would have been brought up before now. It should be noted that he says that he would not have voted in favor of the connecticut law against contraceptives. He never said he agreed with the law.

Santorum was eight years old when Griswold was decided. The law the decision overturned was passed in 1879. Griswold is the decision that placed a "right to privacy" in the Constitution. I have a lot of problems understanding how Santorum could stand against that decision if he didn't think the state ought to have the right to legislate what goes on in the bedroom. If he likes the idea of passing laws legislating the bedroom he's going to believe its just fine and dandy to legislate his personal moral beliefs in what should be legal to do in the bedroom.

Santorum was eight years old when Griswold was decided. so? If he likes the idea of passing laws legislating the bedroom he's going to believe its just fine and dandy to legislate his personal moral beliefs in what should be legal to do in the bedroom. again, he said he would NOT have voted for the law banning contraceptives in connecticut. he DOESN'T like the idea of passing laws legislating the bedroom, according to his own statements. according to santorum, “You shouldn’t create constitutional rights when states do dumb things. Let the people decide if the states are doing dumb things get rid of the legislature and replace them as opposed to creating constitutional laws that have consequences beyond the specific case that was before them.” unless you think he's a liar, how can you make the assumption that he would legislate his moral beliefs?

Well, notch a win for the Dem party. In an election where the economy and jobs should be the #1 topic... (and 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc..) Most of you guys and many mainstream media watching American's are just eating up these clearly Dem talking points (aka - the WhiteHouse's talking points). They've made contraception the reason Santorum is going down. I will say this, if Santorum were to be elected President (happy BS?), absolutely NOTHING would change with this precious right and laws pertaining to... All this trumped up BS is a pathetic election time topic bait and switch. It's getting WAY too much attention. Focus at the problems at hand for crying out loud.

It has nothing to do with the Democratic Party for me. I'm not going to vote for anyone that does not have the same love of Liberty that I do. I don't care if they will make the trains run on time.
