The majority ruled Republican Bradley County Commission putting a wheel tax on the ballot. Ronald Reagan is turning in his grave. What happened to cutting spending thought all these handouts to Whirlpool, Wacker was the answer to the revenue problems. PLEASE VOTE NO
The Bradley County Commission on Monday cleared the way for a citizen vote for a wheel tax in Bradley County. Last week, a resolution to call a referendum on the question of whether a countywide motor vehicle tax (wheel tax) should be levied for Bradley County was referred back to the Education Committee which met prior to the Bradley County Commission voting session Monday evening. A decision on exemptions and the proper wording was made and the final amended resolution was brought before the commission for a vote. chattanoogan.com/2012/3/6/220924/Bradley-County-Commission-Clears-Way.aspx

At least they're putting it on the ballot instead of shoving it down everyone's throats.
But they should be cutting unnecessary spending.

I agree they've put it on before we vote it down, they never learn, Republicans aren't too bright sometimes.. Who gives a shit if they are Republicans or Democrats? At least they are allowing the citizens who vote to determine if they can afford or approve of a tax increase. They do plenty of dumb shit, alright. This just ain't one of the dumb things they do.

I agree, it's been voted down by landslides every time. The only reason I highlighted GOP, is after the last 3.5 years all we heard from them is no tax increases cut spending, just showing how hypocritical they are that is all.
We don't need tax increases we have a spending problem. Until a democrat utters the word tax increase then Katie bar the door. just sick of the bullshit from both sides.
But the country must be doing better the GOP candidates are worried about what a women puts in her body. Everything must be great now if that's the platform...

Let us hope it's voted down by landslides this time as well. My point being, that while I do not support this or any other tax increase, at this time, at least this particular group of commissioners allowed me and you to have a direct say. Which is a helluva lot better than the vast majority of our elected officials, Republican or Democrat.

It's not hypocritical; there are certain elements that want to throw good money after bad, so they say, "well, let's see if those who are footing the bill are willing to pay for it".
About the opposite of hypocritical.

Exactly el Gusano,
That is part of the reason, Chattanooga voters are fed up with Chattanooga gov. Their bond debt is $436 million, and they lost $15 million in poor bond management.
At the peek of the housing meltdown and double digit unemployment in a 12- month period, Chatt. raised property taxes 19% and storm water fees 191%, and passed an increase in the local franchise fees on natural gas bills to increase revenue from $500k to $1.2 million.
There was no ballot in Chatt., citizen groups were completely ignored and marginalized for opposition. Chattanooga has a poverty rate of 26 percent (census data 2010), and the largest corporations in Chattanooga are property and local share sales tax exempt under ad valorum agreements. Who is left to pay all these increases? Working middle class. Am I angry about this, darn right.
At least Bradley County is putting the decision on a ballot, and if the will of the people say no, then the answer is no. I like that system, call the process of a Republic. Yes, we are a Republic.
Thanks I feel better, now.

Don't worry. We surely don't need to give them, Bradley County School Board, more money to mishandle.

they better vote in the wheel tax. if everyone remembers, the wheel tax came up here a few times. it always got voted down. so guess how the government won that issue? emmissions testing.
you have no idea how many people in chattanooga wished the wheel tax passed. that was an extra 25 bucks per year on your car license as opposed to the monstrous repair bills on the cars to fix the emmissions.

You're making the (probably mistaken) assumption that it was an either/or situation. If politicians hold true to form, if they had passed the wheel tax, at some point in the future, they would have said they need MORE money and turned to emissions anyway.
Much like NC passed a lottery in exchange for lowering their sales tax rates. Didn't take long for it to be right back where it started.
