A would-be purse snatcher armed with a can of mace created havoc at the Gunbarrel Road Walmart Wednesday night. According to Chattanooga Police spokesman Nathan Hartwig, officers responded to a robbery call just after 10:00 p.m. Once there, there were told a 29 year-old female victim was approached by a white male suspect inside the store. The suspect apparently sprayed the victim in the face with mace and stole her purse. As the suspect ran for the doors, several customers tried to stop him in which the suspect then maced a 31 year-old man in the face. www.wrcbtv.com/story/17231209/mace-wielding-suspect-creates-havoc-at-gunbarrel-road-walmart

I have to presume anybody macing or tazing me intends to take my firearm and kill me or others with it.
[editorial]
WAL-MART needs to pull it's head out of it's ass and realize they have a CRIME PROBLEM in some of their local outlets, and do something effective about it before somebody REALLY gets hurt.
Reference "Mildred Carter v. Krystal Corp., et. al." for perspective.

I'd like y'all to keep this phrase, "at a local Walmart," in the back of your mind and be aware of how often you hear it in the news. I hear it at least once a week, often more.

What do you suggest?

Some simple stuff, and some complex, expensive stuff.
Move the high-value shoplifting target goods RIGHT UP FRONT, where the bank and customer service stuff is, where it can be watched, and concentrate your ground-pounders right up there. Limit access and egress to the two front entrances, day and night. This entails sacrificing some customer convenience. No more "garden center" shortcuts. Profile: if you've been convicted for thieving at Wal-Mart, no more Wal-Mart for you. The Vegas casinos do it quite effectively, and it works. finally: swallow your pride and HIRE SOME LE SECURITY, for God's sake, at least during peak holidays or daily hours when your problem presents itself.

Come on TD, It's not swallowing pride that's the problem, it's swallowing profit.

Meth Lab Found In Boaz Walmart Restroom April 9, 2012, by Robert Richardson Of all the things a Walmart janitor comes across, meth labs are probably low on the list. Boaz Police say a maintenance worker cleaning the women’s restroom found pseudoephedrine pills and a plastic water bottle with residue in the bottom. Managers contacted police, who recovered what Chief Terry Davis called a one-pot ‘shake and bake’ type lab. “That kind of blew my mind when I read the report,” Davis said. “We’ve found a lot of shake and bake meth labs in different places but never inside a business.” Read more: whnt.com

They used to have this at the Ft. O. Walmart. He was so big he could barely get out of his chair. I felt a lot safer with my Sprinfield .45 on my hip then I ever did with that guy there.

> WAL-MART needs to … do something effective ... What do you suggest? Why doesn't the mayor just shut down the Walmarts? There is REAL danger in those mean aisles, not just a fear of what might happen at some event...

I talk to a lot of people with panic attacks. Almost all of them say they can't go into Walmart!

yet another reason I don't go to WalMart. I don't care if they have "cheaper" products.

I don't have panic attacks but if I did Walmart would surely set them off. There was a time I enjoyed shopping there. That stopped about eighteen years ago. It has now been three years since I stepped foot inside one. I just don't enjoy going in there at all.

Home Depot was the last place that could set me off 20 yrs ago. The narrow aisles, the tall displays. You couldn't just go in and out. Trapped! Thank goodness that's all over now. Just went away.

Huh. I think of Lowes and Home Depot the way Tim Dorsey novels have trained me to think of them.
The worlds most imaginative murder opportunities ever.

Walmart helps me afford groceries. There and United grocery on Hwy 58 are lifesavers.

Walmart's produce and meat are no cheaper than you'll get at Bi-Lo or Publix. Their distribution system doesn't work with fresh and the prices reflect this. Canned, boxed and frozen foods may be cheaper but the fresh stuff is going to be cheaper elsewhere.

WalMart's meat comes from China. There is not a darn thing in any of their stores that I would buy. We need to support those stores that buy made in America.

Not a fan of their meat. And Master Chef promotes their steaks in the black package? And that show had all the produce looking so nice.
Would rather not have my lettuce tough. And their ground chuck just can't compare to Bi-Lo. Not a Publix in N Chatta...yet...so I've never had theirs.
I try my best to only go at off times to Walmart. Not too bad then.

There are at least a couple of Publix' in Chattanooga. The one in Hixson has been there over two years.

Hopefully, we'll have the Publix on North Market by next year! In spite of the controversy.
