A House committee has passed a bill that would allow charter school students to participate in sports and clubs at traditional public schools. Senate Bill 34 is headed to the full House for a vote. It already passed the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers, the bill's sponsor, says the proposal would give children who attend a charter school where some activities aren't offered a chance to participate in team sports and clubs. Opponents say the measure places added costs on cash-strapped schools to accommodate children that aren't enrolled there. The legislation was prompted by Rachel Sackett, a Gwinnett County high school student and lacrosse player whose charter school did not offer the sport. www.wrcbtv.com/story/17237185/ga-lawmakers-eye-another-charter-school-bill

Been doing it in Alaska for years at public schools that are too small to provide certain sports teams. Works really well.

You want an education or you want to play games make your choice going in. Being on a team your not a student of is wrong on so many levels and if it was college it would be a NCAA violation. Opening up a pandoras box for illegal recruiting.. ask Signal Mtn. High School how that worked out for them.
What about the student at the high school who loses he slot on a team because some kid from another school (charter/ home school takes his/her spot. They have no skin in the game at that school. Just come and play the game on go back to the school/home afterwards. Not fair at all...
