The occupyers should pony up and pay for the damage they caused. Why make everyone else pay for their selfishness?

Driving by, the lawn looked OK other than the big scary orange netting everywhere.

Can't really see the lawn from the road. When you actually go up on the walks, it looks like crap, especially where the Occupiers had their tents set and their fire pit.

Exactly. And the occupiers need to pay for the damages they caused instead of expecting the taxpayers to foot the bill.

Who cares? Considering I'm a Hamilton County taxpayer, I do. Just because you have no respect for public property doesn't mean other people share your apathetic opinion.

I'm just saying your wasting your time caring because they'll never be able to find a responsible party to pay for it. So why bother worrying about something you have no control over. My time is more valuable than that., So I guess I mean I don't care...go ahead waste your time brother. I'm betting those protestors which have every right to protest until they made a law against them protesting on public property are tax payers too, so in effect they are paying for the damage.

So, since I'm paying for public housing, do I have the right to vandalize it?

Post by Gary on Apr 3, 2012 6:10:51 GMT -5
Not true. You really think that no one has any idea who the occupiers were?
Are you really that naive, or are you just bound and determined to support people that vandalize property as long as they are on the same political "side" are you are?
I am 100% certain that if a Tea Party event had damaged public property, you'd be screaming and hollering for them to pay up. Your partisanship is blatant to the point of blinders.

Why does it have to be sodded? Just plug it and throw some grass seed down. It's a courthouse, not the 18th fairway at Augusta.

Why does it have to be sodded? Just plug it and throw some grass seed down. It's a courthouse, not the 18th fairway at Augusta. Two reasons: Government likes to use a more expensive solution. Because it makes the Occupiers look worse. Give it a bit of seed, a bit of water, and a bit of time and everything would probably be OK.

Because that's too easy, Rather spend copius amounts of money then blame it on someone else. Typical Hamilton County Politics.
Gary you're wrong. Freedom to assemble is a right I love, have no problem with both sides using it. Any damage is the cost of doing business and the Government rapes each side for enough tax dollars to fix it.
You might be able to identify who was protesting but you can't put the cost of damages on one person. It's a stupid grandstanding waste of time.
The old cliche throwing good money after bad money. Wait I think that's the mission statement of the Hamilton County Commish

If they had chopped down trees, I can see the argument the Bill of Rights haters on here are making, but when you run down a group for killing some grass, well you're just showing how much you want to stifle dissent.
Throw down some grass seed, STFU, and quit changing the subject away from the real problems we are facing.

I find it kinda funny (in the bad way) that so many are angry over some dead grass when I could name nearly a million dollars in waste from hand-job jobs. It's spring.... throw down some fertilizer and seed and give it a few weeks. $100 bill could fix it, yanno.

Who pays this bill for damages? LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thousands of jubilant fans swarmed streets near the University of Kentucky campus Saturday night, setting couches ablaze and overturning cars after the Wildcats beat cross-state rival Louisville in a Final Four matchup that had riveted the state. The throngs of screaming, cheering fans took to the streets both on and off campus following the Wildcats' 69-61 win in New Orleans. Many streets had already been blocked off around Kentucky's Lexington campus to make way for the crowds, but sirens blared and police began shutting down more streets as the blazes broke out. Twitter feeds reported police in riot gear trying to disperse crowds that were overturning and vandalizing vehicles as well as smashing glass bottles. Lexington city spokeswoman Susan Straub said police made fewer than 10 arrests, and a few injuries were reported. "Things have not gotten out of control," she said in a telephone interview. By about 11 p.m. EDT – nearly three hours after the game had ended – crowds were dispersing, Straub said. Earlier in the week, Lexington's mayor and UK's president had exhorted fans to respect property and neighbors. But the city and university were prepared for a fiery celebration after police reported at least a dozen couch fires last week following Kentucky's win over Baylor to earn a Final Four berth. "We've come at this with a significant show of force," www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/31/kentucky-fans-riot-final-four-louisville_n_1394213.html

Situations like that are not uncommon around sporting events - charge the Wildcats. No doubt they made plenty money to pay for the damage their fans caused.
It is a bit odd, the mayor here wants to end the Bessie Smith Strut for fear of something bad happening (even lacking significant events to point to) but other cities stand by and let sports fans riot in the streets.

I see that personal responsibility has taken a back seat to "the government is evil so that makes it okay."
It's sad how prevalent this type of thinking has become. If the occupiers had any honor whatsoever, they would take responsibility for the damage they have caused and the burden placed on the taxpayers and cover the cost of the damage.

Unfortunately, the majority of the Occupiers weren't even from around here, so they obviously have no interest in it as they don't pay taxes here. They were actually having a homeless person stay there around the clock, feeding him and giving him clothes for staying there.

Not as much "evil" as full of hot air. The whole lawn needs water and a few patches need some grass seed.

soooooo. the sprinkler system NEEDS to be replaced?? or the city will use tax money to overpay for sod instead of grass seed & WILL replace the sprinkler system just in a "while we're at it" situation?

I LOVED David Cook's TFP column over the weekend about the occupiers; how one was asked "What are you protesting?" and replied "I don't really know". Kind of reminds me of this concern of yours
