Who is she? She is a low life trouble maker who came here from Florida where she did exactly the same things. For whatever reason she has a problem with law enforcement and likes to stretch the facts to suit her purpose. She needs to go back to where she came from!
So jeffphillips1 I agree with you, Beth, Pack your sh*t and get your *ss out of our town!

anybody care to expand further?
links?
if she is just holding Sheriff Hammond's feet to the fire then I applaud her. I missed this one.
Come on now forumites,... got a potential good thread here. Let's Go!

Examples, please. It seems she was hired as a crime/police reporter. What makes you say she isn't just doing her job?

If she's holding any office holders feet to the fire to honestly and effectively serve their community in their service I'm all for her. If she is dealing only in rumor and innuendo I have no use for her. I'm not in Chattanooga enough to know which one it is.

ssmynkint... I don't know about you but I would not want to swap punches with the most powerful person in the county. You would have to be an idiot to try it and my money goes on Sheriff Hamond on this one. My disclaimer: That is not a poker bet either just a figure of speech.

I wouldn't want to swap punches with anyone less. If he is an honest man no harm will come of it. If he isn't he needs to be removed from the job.

I concur. Either way.
I've had my issues with the TFP, among other media outlets, several reporters at the TFP, and those issues have been well discussed here. I don't think there is any question of my stand on this matter.
I don't consider this 'Media bashing' and will let it go until I decide it is truly an untoward, libelous or an unfair attack, for no reason, or in violation of the Terms of Service.
I think Ms. Burger, from what little I know of her, is a big girl, a damn good finder of supported fact, and she can stand behind her own printed words. I can attest that she has never misquoted me. That's what I try to do, anyway.
LE, by it's very nature, needs to be held to a higher standard, as we have the power over life and death, freedom or incarceration, harassment or 'let it go', in the name of, and with the power of, the State.
The 'Fourth estate' should try and hold to those same 'higher standards' against themselves. Yin, yang and all that Karma shit.
That is as incumbent on them as it is on us, or should be. It is called, "Responsibility."
Say what you mean and mean what you say, and stand behind what you meant to say in the first fucking place. That seems to be a lost concept in our current society.
But, the media has plenty of ink and plenty of videotape. I'd like the 'media' to hold themselves to the same 'higher standards' they demand (Rightfully) of LE and that we demand of ourselves as LE.
As far as I can tell, Ms. Burger has her ducks in a row on this issue. If she does not? That is on her and the managers at the TFP. If she has it wrong? Prove it. If she is piling on, for no reason, prove it.
And if she'd like to chime in?
Feel free, Beth.
But she may be as constrained, as I usually am, by our respective censorious employers.
I kinda like this whole 'checks and balances' thing. We both have a job to do. I answer to the taxpayers, the courts, and to my bosses, and reporters answer to the accounting, and advertisement, departments.
That is all I have to say about that.
For now.

Just in Thyme, you are last in line.... your not even in our city, you go home too on this one. I spent 47 years of my life in Chattanooga and have missed it every day I've lived out of town. My mother is buried in Chattanooga, my father, son, granddaughter and brother live in Chattanooga, along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and literally hundreds of cousins. I have business and real estate interests in Chattanooga and I intend to move back as soon as it is practical. You tell me to go home? I may currently live in Lawrenceville but Chattanooga is my home. When I get there I want to read a paper that has the guts to search out and report corruption in my city in an objective and unbiased manner. If Ms Burger is that type of reporter I'm all for her. If she isn't I'll give her the hell she deserves. If Sheriff Hammond is an honest, effective sheriff she won't be able to bust him. If she can bust him he deserves what he gets.

I don't personally care for most of the people in the media. I think to some extent they do their best to prove to the public on a daily basis that we are nothing but jack booted thugs.
For the most part we don't like investigative reporters in this town. The elite expect lies to be reported without question. We especially don't like the type that don't take "No" for an answer and if that person is a woman then she is labled a Bitch.
Now: Other than not liking what Beth Burger is reporting can anyone tell me what was repoted that was not accurate?
Ol Diamond Jim sure has a pair of balls trying to compare reserve officers to full timers. See, I chose to wear that star 24/7/365. Other than just a few, many of these fools are nothing more than weekend warriors. And other than just a few, Most do not ride in cars and put themselves in harms way. So the next time BMW Jim wants to compare my commitment to that of MOST of the reserve officers I'd like for him to have a seat on my sit n spin, but I'll be removing the center wheel for the constitutional officer.
Now I understand that the Chattanooga Police Department will, from time to time, have investigations that may take them out into the County. I understand the need for some of them to have commission cards, but why would anyone want to give those credentials to the Little Debbie Police? "I got one with a roach in the car dispatcher. Start the whole fuckin shift to back me up." I wonder how many votes BMW Jim is pulling out of the grass lands? Did their Chief ask you for those creds or was it the City Manager?
Is there anyone out there that actually knows what is in Jeff Chambers IA file at the city? Had a normal citizen done what the former CPD Top Cop did they would be on the sex offender registry.
I have a funny feeling that BMW Jim didn't seek Jeff out, but that Little General actually presented him before his highness? The High Sheriff can claim some ignorance, but sawed off shotgun Ronnie knew damn well what caused the CPD to cut ties with Chambers. Maybe that type of behavior doesn't turn Ronnies stomach like it does most normal people?
Why would the Sheriff extend his power and authority to a sexual deviant?
Now is anyone really thinking that the Sheriff is the most powerful person in the county? I guess if he were the vote at the county commission would have been better today. Highest ranking law enforcement officer, yes. Most powerful, No.
Now I have seen some comments regarding Beth Burger getting fired. Was she fired, let go or forced to resign? It's easy to jump and say she did something wrong, but maybe she pissed off the Sheriff from a Florida County that actually did have some power?
Maybe she was told "No" by the Sheriff or her editor in reference to a story she was planning to run and didn't want to comprimise her principles?
I looked into my crystal ball earlier and had a vision. I saw Beth Burger asking the Sheriff of this Florida County about why he told his Narcotics Division to stand down after he learned one of his reserve officers, who worked for a major contributor, was involved in narcotics law violations. The excitement of the vision got me breathing hard and I fogged up the ball. I wiped it off, looked close and it looked like this all took place in lil ol Hamilton County Tennessee. Hmmm
Go Beth Go!
Ya'll , Be Sweet!

Isn't it funny, how everyone on this board, especially cops...DEMAND investigative reporting from the local media: UNTIL it knocks on their own doorstep.

The 'Bash Beth' crowd seem to be exercising their right to remain silent when asked for a fact or two.
Isn't it funny that most cops on here are defending her, doorstep, or not?
She does seem to have some very 'inside sources' in most area LE agencies.
Most of this material had to initiate from an inside source and it was then fleshed out by an intrepid reporter which then sells papers and generates CMF page views.
Weird.
