** according to this story ** the Governor wants to lower the maximum blood alcohol content for boaters because of an accident. My question is how will it actually help?

More patrolling the waters, more boaters cited, and designated divers! More money spent on boat fuel for patrol boats. As Bryan would say, I give it 6 months, if it happens at all.

My question is how lowering the limit will help.
I wonder how many people were pulled over, were tested and under the limit and later that day, got hurt.
more patrol boats on the water I can see helping, lowering the limit I can't.

My guess is it'll help them make more money hassling the populace.

It makes soccer moms feel better. Isn't that enough?
Ga is now doing the zero tolerance thing. Who cares about removing the repeat DUI offenders from the streets... they wanna go after those that have a beer with dinner. I guess there's mo' money with popping responsible drinkers then there is with those that have multiple DUIs on their record.

Can't have multiple offenders without giving them that first one!

If they pull you over on the lake, how do they administer the f.s.t.? Make you walk on water?

Can't have multiple offenders without giving them that first one! That is very true but I think you know what I mean, though. Every few months you'll see a news report of a DUI fatality wher the offender has had a couple dozen DUIs and a few wrecks (no injury). Seems they (meaning legislators and judges) could care less about them until someone has died as a result. Meanwhile, they come up with zero tolerance to alcohol "missions" and, like reported in the OP, lowering the BAC. Don't get me wrong here. Not saying it's a-ok to drive drunk "just the one time". I'm just saying that it seems they're more concerned with making money from that first time offender, making more first time offenders with ZT and lowering BAC, then they are with putting away those repeat offenders.

My guess is it'll help them make more money hassling the populace. Yep. Just like DUI on the streets. If they were serious about stopping it, they would enforce existing laws and remove multiple offenders from the streets permanently. Instead, they simply talk about lowering the limits and raising the fines. Same with red light cameras. Since there is no violation on your license, most people simply pay them instead of fighting them, in spite of the fact that almost everyone who fights them wins. Let's see, a $75 fine or miss two days of work (one to file and one to fight)? It's all about revenue to those who make the rules.
