" Exhaustion is finally setting in with the enormous human and fiscal costs of attempting to eradicate the ineradicable. People have always used intoxicants, and always will, in ways ancient and new. The Good Book tells that no sooner had Noah planted a vineyard than “he drank of the wine, and was drunken.” After all the countless resources expended trying to keep illegal drugs from entering the United States, the New York Times reported the other day, abuse of indigenous prescription drugs is the nation’s biggest drug problem. In 2008, it accounted for the lion’s share of overdose deaths." www.nationalreview.com/articles/310104/drug-war-recedes-rich-lowry

Just because it is inevitable does not mean it should be legal. It is inevitable that jealousy will lead to murder (Cain & Abel, et al)....should we then applaud and legalize the Aurora, Colorado events?

Progressives like to label anything a "war". Wars get people to give up liberties in exchange for so-called security.
Simple solution: Legalize all drugs, but impose capital punishment for anyone who commits a crime because they are on those drugs or to obtain that drug. DUI? Bang! Robbery to buy crack? Bang!
Problem solved.

I've been around intoxicants thousands of times and never took any. YOUR argument is invalid.

"You made the circular argument, not me."
You can read, can't you? The article made the argument. I showed why it was flawed. YOU agreed with the author's circular premise, not me.

I really don't see a problem in having the laws say that if you want to get high that's fine but if you want to get high and cause a problem you get put away. I think El Gusano is correct on his proposal, just a little to punishing.

Problem solved. Careful! DUIs can happen to the nicest, non-criminal type people. Would you really be yelling "bang!" if it happened to be a family member?
