Records show no excessive force use from Chattanooga police officer by Beth Burger A Chattanooga police officer accused of using excessive force while arresting a man at College Hill Courts last month has no record of excessive force with the department, according to internal affairs records. Officer Robert Simmons, 37, who has been with the department since 2003, has been the subject of five complaints in that time, but investigations by the department found no credible evidence to support them, records show. The latest complaint -- whose internal investigation has not been completed -- came after Simmons arrested 20-year-old Aaron Mitchell on Oct. 4 on charges of criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, assault and resisting arrest. The Rev. Leroy Griffith of Renaissance Presbyterian Church said he and others watched as Mitchell was handcuffed and taken to the ground by Simmons. Griffith complained about Simmons to the police internal affairs department, which is investigating allegations of excessive force and rudeness. Read more: times free press

In a world where things are handed to them like bottles to babies, their minds cannot grasp the fact that something is not going their way. There is a always an out in this reality. Refusing to pay for a meal after they eat it because it was 'bad'. Using verbal conflict to intimidate decisions. Using racism to SOLVE their problems. Screaming with 30 other like-minds in a public park until the media shows up. These acts are akin to something we are all familiar with, a child learning to cope with reality. However the victim here is NOT the officer. He has developed thick skin throughout his career and can handle simple whining like this. The media coverage is a badge of honor among his peers, because HE KNOWS that he did nothing wrong. It is comical relief and something to talk about when two patrol cars pull up together facing opposite directions. The victims are more complicated than that. They are the children of that officer who come home from school asking their daddy why the other kids say that he is going to jail. They are the officer's wife who goes to work and diverts her eyes from co-workers who are huddled together whispering, shooting quick glances her way. Before you dismiss this as a hypothetical scenario from some random protester, know this: It indeed DID HAPPEN. In fact, it happened last week to this officer's family. And for what?.. video evidence proved no excessive force took place. The officer and everyone there knew that all along. The defendant even knew it. It happened this way to fill an agenda. To solve a unbalance in a lifestyle. It happened this way because the bottle fell out of the mouth of a child.
