Yesterday, I wrote about a new study that shows how beneficial drinking coffee is. Today comes news of a new report that has similar nice things to say about beer. Consuming large quantities of a key ingredient in beer can protect against winter sniffles and even some serious illnesses in small children, a Japanese brewery said citing a scientific study. Okay, now let's just take into account that the report came from a brewery. Of course they are going to want to put as positive a spin on their product as possible. Even so, who among us doesn't want to believe (hope) that there is some validity to their study. A chemical compound in hops, the plant brewers use to give beer its bitter taste, provides an effective guard against a virus that can cause severe forms of pneumonia and bronchitis in youngsters, Sapporo Breweries said Wednesday. As hops are a close botanical relative to cannabis, I am not surprised to hear they have health benefits as well.
