On average, it looks like America endures @ 14-15,000 murders a year. Again, on average, it looks like we convict @ 9,000 or 3/4's of the scum who murder, the other fourth either get away with it or get convicted years later or something happens to explain the leakage. In 2011 where there were @ 9,000 murders, only @ 80 of them received death sentences.
All of that is in the pipeline every year so to speak, 9,000 scum suckers sent to jail for murder with 75 - 100 getting the death sentence. In 2011, 43 people were executed (.28%) for murder in the same year that saw @ 15,000 murders committed.
Keeping thousands of people alive in prison who deserve death is a symbol of a civilization in decline & fall; it's the bleeding heart barbarians' & compassion fascists' fault....

The victim didn't do anything to be killed. But the killer did. Since an innocent man died, shouldn't the guilty on also die?

To say “an innocent man died” makes an assumption, however, I do support capital punishment (the death penalty) but believe it is not applied often enough to be considered a deterrent. In the common vernacular, “Some people just need killin’.”

To the truly evil, no potential penalty (Up to, and including, the death penalty) will be a 'deterrent' as they don't think they'll get caught, in the first place, and if they get caught, they think they can manipulate the system as they've done all their lives, and subsequently walk (And they have plenty of positive reinforcement in that realm.)
The death penalty, when properly and legally applied, is only a deterrent to that one individual, the duly convicted, by a court of law, scrote.
It can be virtually guaranteed that the now deceased person will be deterred from ever causing anyone any harm again.
It really is not rocket surgery.

I was going to expound more on this topic, but I need to write a protest letter/boycott demand/manifesto to the 'Animal Planet' for documenting the whole predator/prey thing on the 'Big Cat Diary' which disgustingly glorifies the survival of the fittest thing.... at the cost of a few allegedly defenseless (But, fast as hell) Thompson Gazelles, warthogs and water buffaloes versus the 'Big Cats.'
Arm some Thompson Gazelles, warthogs and water buffaloes with some assault weapons, night vision, SWAT training, provide covering fire and extended magazines and it would probably be fair, as it should be in a perfect world.
It's all fun and games until someone gets chased and eaten (Or escapes and doesn't get eaten) for no damn reason.
Watching further, it seems the prey that survive the encounter usually live (But, with a scar, or two) when they decide to stand and fight, or outsmart the evil predators or out run the 'Big Cats.'
I like a happy ending. Some days the prey has a happy ending and some days the predator has a happy ending. Either way, it is just not fair.
What's really weird is that the human seems to be the only animal who knows, realizes, and processes logically, that, one day, they are going to die.
Weird. (Now, I forgot what I was going to write the Animal Planet Channel about.)

Recently there was a father that killed the drunk driver that killed his two kids. Do you believe he deserves the death penalt? Hell no ! ! ! He saved the cost of courts thousands if not millions. Because that SOB would probably been set free to kill again.

Oh, one more thing, if you come to my house and want a drink, you can. There is only one little thing I ask. Give me your car keys. You'll get them back tomorrow. I have lived with that for the last 40 years. No one has ever left my house after having just one drink. Oh, if you one drink somewhere else, you don't drive home. Call the police, they will gladly take you home.

Maybe not home, but we'll arrange safe transport to somewhere safe. Home is an option, though.

The cost of keeping a convicted first degree murderer alive in a jail is roughly twice the cost of educating a child. Which is more important? You may not think of it as a deterrent, but for saving tax payers dollars, it helps.

You're right. They can't get that in school.
