A Chattanooga police officer, who has worked for the department for five years, was wounded in the line of duty Tuesday evening while responding to a call. The officer was responding to a theft call at 2522 Fourth Ave. when he encountered a gunman at 2219 E. 26th Street Court. The gunman shot the officer just after 6 p.m. before fleeing. The officer was taken to Erlanger hospital and treated for a nonlife-threatening injury. “We’re not sure what the interaction was between him and the suspect, if he tried to stop the disorder or walked up on it,” said Chattanooga Police Chief Bobby Dodd. Been doing this 30 years and the damn 'tone' and the radio blasting '443' still scares the absolute shit out of me. In this case, it scared the shit right back in me. (Got an appointment, not to worry.)
And, after all these years, to see a sometimes dysfunctional family (Chief Dodd just said, 'Family', I just editorialized a tad), despite any trifling inconsequential differences....
Despite any generational, political, racial, sexual preference, idiot mayor, denominational, gender, ethnicity, religious, FOP/PBA/IBPO/NOBLE or economic background asymmetry act/react (Immediately and instantaneously, without thought to personal well-being, rank, Department, safety, care, ego, complaint or comfort).......... still brings tears to these old cynical eyes.
My hands are still shaking2, my voice is strained and raw, but not as much, now3.
Godspeed, young man.

2To all the citizens that pay our salary, I sincerely apologize for any potentially offensive language, or hard looks, you received from any of us when you expressed your feeling that your local LEO was not grasping the serious, world ending, Armageddonish weight of the fact that 12 year old boys (And now girls, dammit!) were skateboarding too fast in your cul-de-sac at about 1811 hours last night. (In their defense, they said they'd call back later.)3To the other 99.9%.... Really? I am so glad the whole Defense Bar Written Sentencing Guidelines are working so well. Prisons full? Plead down Sherman's March Through Georgia as 'Simple Trespass?' First Degree Murder? Plea it down to 'Discharging a Firecracker in the Limits of a City?' 400 years of Slavery? Plea it down to misdemeanor 'Human Trafficking.' 'Time served.......' "Lessor charges.....' 100% conviction rate, there. Everybody's happy, happy, happy. Except, of course the predator's victims (And their families/friends/loved ones) who wore the wrong color, who were dressed provocatively, or went to the 'wrong' school. Did these same folks write the TDOC guidelines for classifying TDOC PRISONERS? A Cop Killing, Escape Artist, Who Has Violated Every Term, of Every Parole/Probation Agreement, He's Ever Thumbprinted, Then Murders a Cop, Gets Moved To 'Picking Up Tennessee Trash', in the TomfuckingBigbee Waterway Leading to the Bristol Race? All because of some MMPI inspired Newtonian Algorithm/Squared by the Factor of ObamaCare, and we're supposed to be cool with it? I thought 'FLOW CHARTS' were supposed to, like, 'FLOW.' Is TDOC run by the same corrupt cabal that has augured in the Tennessee DCS? Those PEOPLE who are charged with protecting innocent children, who have no one to protect them, but a Committee designed by the State? On second thought, I was just reminded of the whole 'Papillon' thing and that had a clean, happy ending, right? Squeaky clean, that is.

The thug was obviously just defending himself from abusive cops. I hear there's iPhone footage on youtube of the thug screaming at the abusive cop "STOP, don't hurt me.... I give up!" as the thug is shooting and running away.

I didn't want to contaminate the previous post with any mention of the perp, who should suffer some of the old Chinese "disciplines", like being slowly lowered into a vat of lye.

Thanks. I heard he was supposed to be released today, but he has a long road ahead to a full recovery. I'm confident, he'll do so. If you see him out and about, thank him for his service. I'm damn thankful there is not a black banner around his photo.

Suspect in Chattanooga police officer shooting nabbed in manhunt by Beth Burger A 39-year old Chattanooga man was arrested this morning in connection with the Tuesday night shooting of a Chattanooga Police Department officer. Celvin “Squeaky” Houston is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon, Chief Bobby Dodd said this morning. Houston was arrested without incident about 8:30 a.m. at a residence in the Brainerd area, Dodd said. Family members were believed to be at the home as well, he said. Area law enforcement agencies and local pastors assisted in the massive manhunt for Houston that began Tuesday night, the chief said. Read more: times free pressFrom what I have heard from Correctional Officers (Who are very familiar with Squeaky, due to his briefs stays in the system despite numerous convictions), this prick is a stone cold coward.
Runs that yap all the time, but really says nothing. In Squeaky's case, there are no humans involved.
So, society's option is to tolerate, enable and excuse, his anti-social violent behavior every time he is released from frequent stays in state custody or permanently remove him from society.
