State's Chief Witness Who Is Also Mother Of Murder Defendant Skips Court; Warrant For Her Arrest Issued Wednesday, March 27, 2013 Testimony ended Wednesday afternoon in the murder trial of a woman charged with the stabbing death of a 15-year-old girl without the appearance on the stand of an expected key state witness. Natalia Reed, mother of defendant Temekia "Missy" Reed, told police soon after the Dec. 19, 2011, incident at College Hill Courts that during a street fight she witnessed her daughter, Temekia, run toward the victim with a pair of purple-handled scissors in her hand. Natalia Reed said she recognized the scissors because they belonged to her. Natalia Reed also told police that Temekia Reed advised her that she stabbed Shaviya Vinson with the scissors. When Natalia Reed failed to appear as a witness in the courtroom of Judge Rebecca Stern, Judge Stern signed a warrant for her arrest. Read more: chattanoogan

Jury Cannot Reach Verdict In College Hill Courts Stabbing Case Thursday, March 28, 2013 A Criminal Court jury deliberated all day Thursday, but could not reach a unanimous verdict in the case in which Temekia Reed is charged with stabbing a 15-year-old girl to death with a pair of scissors. Judge Rebecca Stern declared a mistrial at the close of the day. Attorneys will later pick a new court date. Ms. Reed is charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 19, 2011, death of Shaviya Vinson during an altercation that was allegedly over an unpaid $20 babysitting fee.
