All I can say is YUM!!!!
Went there for dinner last night and it was the bomb...the cool guacamole dip is to die for (and I don't like avacodos')!! It came with the dip sampler...the complementary chips and salsa were even good.....
Very good value for the amount of food....
I ordered a plate it was called the Grande, and just the plate alone weighed 7 lbs.....it had 3 different enchilada's, a chili relenos, tamale, taco (which was awesome!), the specialty taters and refried beans.......
I WILL GO BACK!!!

*sigh* I guess I'll have to check it out one day. My parents went to an Abuelo's up north and my mom didn't think much of their food.

Mrs. Bear and I went last weekend for lunch, I would hesitate to call it "the bomb" but we will return. The picante salsa served in the little bitty cups was darn good but I thought the chips were very thin as the tended to break when lloked at hard. Actually the first serving of them must have been from the bottom of the bag as few of them were over a square inch in size. The server picked up on this after a bit and brought us another serving of decent sized chips. My stuffed chicken breast entree-cannot remember the name- was quite good. My wifes beef skewer was good also, the steak was tender and flavorful with, I believe, either an ancho or poblano marinade. The beer selection is not bad at all, it includes both Pacifico and Bohemia as well as the more ubiquitous Mexican beers. The Marquaritas were a bit sweet and somewhat lacking of the main ingredient. Overall, we won't make a special trip to go there but a worthwhile addition to the Hamilton Place dining scene, and they are not as stuck on themselves as P.F. Changs is.

I have noticed that All mexican food tastes like,.... Mexican food. This place is no exception, being the husband of a Restaurant Snob.
But LET ME TELL YOU... The Patron Margarita taste and price... CANNOT BE BEAT.
Their service is WAY over the top. The Food average as hell. But the Patron Margarita in the Unique Shaker?
Shit your Christmas Bells I'LL be there again, and likely this wekend before I spill my drunken birthday holiday over into the Fox & Hound for beer's'es. Yes.
Ah LOT.

I like Mexican food. But I despise getting into the vicinity of Hamilton Place even outside of the current holiday's shopping and traffic nightmare. They'd have to have really good food to get me to go there -- especially in December.

Despite the name Abuelo's does NOT serve Mexican food, it may be Southwestern but it's NOT Mexican. Mind you it is NOT bad food, I enjoyed my lunch there, but really my fellow forumites it is not Mexican.

The majority of "Mexican" restaurants in the US don't serve authentic Mexican food. But it's still pretty good.
