A fundraiser was held Saturday for two Pikeville boys who were severely burned, but organizers say between $2,000 and $3,000 of the money was stolen. The event was a horse show to raise money for Terry and Conner Cook. The organizers want to help provide a new house for the boys, who were burned at their home in February. The money was allegedly stolen while the horse show was going on. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_106524.asp

Arrest made in horse show benefit theft Tuesday, May 01, 2007, at 2:31 p.m. By Ben Benton and Dick Cook Staff Writers Marion County authorities say they have made an arrest in the theft of money from a Saturday fund-raising horse show at Ketner's Mill. The fund-raiser was held to benefit two Bledsoe County brothers who were burned in a February fire, and the woman in jail is their aunt, according to Marion County Sheriff Ronnie "Bo" Burnett. Authorities said Tina Arnold, of Dunlap, Tenn., was charged Tuesday with theft under $500 and is being held on $1,500 bond. Ms. Arnold is the sister of Tonya Hollen, the boys' other aunt who has spearheaded several fund-raising efforts to help the brothers and their parents, the sheriff said. www.timesfreepress.com/absolutenm/templates/breaking.aspx?articleid=14620&zoneid=41

At this rate, they'll never be able to afford safer metal jerrycans of gas for the kids to play with.
Goddamnit.

First story: organizers say between $2,000 and $3,000 of the money was stolen.
Second story: Tina Arnold, of Dunlap, Tenn., was charged Tuesday with theft under $500
So, what happened to the rest of the money?
Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmm...."

Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmm...." Things first reported in the media always seem to be jacked up for that shock value in reports or articles. They are pretty consistent in exaggerating in the first story of a series when they want the public's full attention and then it always seems to turn into something not near as big by the second or third story in the series. Does make you wonder... Laura

Two words:
Tennessee Trash
As a society, we're weakening ourselves every day by 'saving' those swimmers in the gene pool that aren't strong enough to keep themselves afloat.

Ahh, but this was reporting what the organizers said was missing, not a reporter just pulling a number out of his ass.
I would be taking a harder look at the organizers - there's a big difference between $500 and $2,000.

Now it comes out that the alleged thief is on probation for a couple of things, including attempting to obtain prescription drugs by fraud. I hope they violate her ass right into prison.
Oh yeah, why in the hell was not a TRUSTED family member in charge of the cash box at all times? Why was not the money taken from the cashbox to a secure location every time it reached a certain level? I've been in retail management and it is an absolute fact that cash dollar bills will tempt almost anyone.

This woman is from a family that let the kids play in the yard with a can of gas, so excuse my lack of surprise.

Trash is as trash does.
Seriously...it's what I call an 'indicator' when your kids enjoy playing with goddamn gas cans....

Uhm?.........
She was the trusted member of the family. I guess they meant trusted with just the lighter, not the cash.

I'm sure she is a good christian woman. She didn't mean to steal those poor boys' money. It was the devil tempting her.

I've thought all along that the family had an idea who had taken the money. In a town that size, people know.
