At 4:52 today, an 8-yr-old boy was struck while crossing the street at 2815 Dodson Avenue.
The boy was crossing the street in an area unprotected by a crosswalk, when a truck driven by Joseph Yell of Rock Springs, Ga hit him.
The child suffered a head injury and multiple lacerations to his arms, legs and chest. He was transported to T C Thompson's Children's hospital for his injuries.
Chattanooga Police were in the area on an unrelated call when the accident occurred. Yell advised police that he was driving around a parked police cruiser when the child suddenly appeared. By the time he saw the child, it was too late.
Traffic investigators are looking into the incident to see if any charges will be filed.
