Ok, I've only been here once, but this once may well have been enough. We went for lunch today, enticed by the large rectangular pizzas they cut into slices just as is done in North Beach.
Well, if anyone sold pizza like this in North Beach they would be lucky to survive the day. We asked for two slices; one everything and one olive, and a stuffed pizza with spinach and riccota inside. You order at the counter then get your drinks yourself then find an empty table that has actually been cleared of the last diners mess.
First of all I was not able to see any mention of beer on the menu, or any beer on display. OK, I CAN live without beer-I just prefer not to. We asked for tea and were given plastic cups for it. Proceding to the drink station my wife filled her cup and when I went to fill mine I only got about a third of a cup. I went and told the person at the counter about it and was mumbled at. My wife went and asked for some lemon for our tea and was told it would be a minute as they needed to cut it.
By now I was getting a bit testy and then noticed a card on the table advertising some kind of beer. Got a bit more testy. As we waited we were brought our stuffed pizza, the stuffing was not bad but the crust was soft and doughy. After I cast several increasingly ugly looks at the minimal staff we finally were-somewhat grudgingly-given a plate with some lemon slices on it. As the server/counter guy went to walk away I asked him about our slices. It took a second but his brain engaged long enough to remember what we had ordered and it was brought to us after another few minutes. Same story, the minimal toppings were good but the crust again was soft and on one slice not quite cooked through.
Now, you will notice that at no time during our visit was I offered an apology for only getting a third of a cup of tea, I was not offered my $1.75 back either, as of course you pay up front.
Unless someone posts and tells me that I experienced an abberation and that normally the staff is friendly and eager to serve and that the crust is usually fully cooked and crisp, I'm not going back. Nor would I advise anyone to, unless you hear good things about this place from a trusted source.
If what I experienced was typical, look for a storefront on Frazier for rent soon.
