MONDAY, March 24 (HealthDay News) -- Comprehensive sex education may help reduce teen pregnancies without increasing So find U.S. researchers who reviewed data from a 2002 national survey of more than 1,700 heterosexual teens, ages 15 to 19. There is ongoing debate about whether abstinence-only education or comprehensive sex education (including instruction in birth control) is best for students. Study lead author Pamela Kohler, a program manager at the University of Washington in Seattle, and colleagues found that about 25 percent of teens received abstinence-only education and about two-thirds received comprehensive sex education. About 9 percent -- particularly teens from poor families and those in rural areas -- received no sex education at all. news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20080325/hl_hsn/sexedcanhelppreventteenpregnancy;_ylt=Ap5ZOVJm7mf1zD4CUEZR0Z4DW7oF

Glad my kids survived their encounters with public skool, aggressive sex-ed indoctinational offerings; as I told them many times when they were young, if you want a chaste, virtuous woman to marry, better buy one from Asia because they're virtually extinct in this country.....

It is my own personal opinion that if parents were more open in talking about sex with their children and if sex were talked about more openly in church then sex education in public schools would just be another biology lesson.

I can see the Cat reincarnated as a HS gym teacher for an all-male class along the lines of Kelly LeBrock in Wierd Science ....
Not a kid in the room would be "chaste" .....

One has to laugh at the repression around here. A friend who lives near here almost had Protective Services on her doorstep because her 6yo daughter, when hurt at recess, informed her teacher, "I think I hurt my labia." The teacher and school nurse demanded to know from the Mom why the child knew the term "labia."
"Because she has them. She also knows nostril, iris, and uvula...... because she has them too and she asked what they were and I told her." Perhaps they thought she should call it her "wee-wee" or something?
As long as we treat sex, sex organs, and sexual conversation as bad or "taboo" for kids, they will continue in confusion and misinformation about sex. Telling them the truth as they ask, just as we do about their "funny color" in their eyes or silly thing in their throat fosters an environment where sexual issues can be discussed normally and honestly like how their eyes work or ears work.
Things around here remind me of an old Neil Young line..... "His mother had told him a trip was a fall and don't mention babies at all......."

Kordax said; What about chaste virtuous men? I am assuming that was troll bait. But it is still increadably sexist.

I can be virtuous without being chaste.
Just saying.

I seem to remember a group of people here worried that a 9yr old boy knew the word 'penis.'
oh, and as for virtuous, chaste men... I chase men alla time. Doesn't make 'em have any virtue though.

How about mom and dad saying that 13 is too young to date? How about mom and dad driving the kids to a G rated movie. Excuse me - I'm sorry - they don't make G rated movies any more. Darn. What is wrong with this picture? Mom and dad aren't there.
Mom and dad won't spank and the teachers can't. DUH?!?!?!

Which is why I've decided that the HPV vaccine shouldn't just be for girls but for the boys as well! Here's a link for info about oral cancer & the link to HPV: www.oralcancerfoundation.org/facts/
