We have tried this place twice now and enjoy it very much. On our last visit we tried the a la carte selections. The taco lengua may have been better than Taco Roc's, it was awesome. The taco al pastor was also quite good, but not as good as the lengua. I also had a sope pollo, which while of course not as flavorful as the tacos was very good, the masa was excellent. The tamales were good, but the best tamales in town are still Taco Rico's.
They have expanded their beer selection since our first visit, now they offer the ever popular Negra Modelo as well as Modelo Especial. On our first visit the only Mexican beer they had was Corona Light, which is in the "why bother" catagory with me. I had water that visit.
Their standard salsa, which is served with tortilla chips as soon as you sit down, is not bad at all. The tomatillo salsa, just ask for it, is addictive.
Azteca's is located in the old Padrino's/American Pie Pizza location on Hixson Pike, a short drive for us. Depending on your level of restaurant Spanish there may be a bit of a language barrier. Some of the servers have very good English, others not so good. Everyone seems anxious to please however.

They are on Saturdays so I would assume that they are during the week also.

I drove by there today at around noon and the sign said "Open" but I did not stop in.

Is this a locally owned restaurant? There is a chain of Aztecas on the west coast, I wonder if this is one of them.

It does not have the look of a chain restaurant to me. First of all I'd be totally shocked if corporate types chose that location.

The family and I went there yesterday. Two had chimichangas, one a chicken quesadilla, one a burrito supreme and I had a mushroom quesadilla and a chili renello. All items were fresh and tasty. The chili renello look very pretty as it came on it's own plate and the sauce was very pleasing. The young lady warned me about the chili torenado being probably too hot so I went for the renello instead. The mashed beans and gucamole were fresh and mild. The pico was also very mild. Nothing was oversalted. The cheese sauce could have been a little thicker but then it wouldn't have gone as far with our family. They were out of tres leche cake but middle child had a sopaphilla (sp?) and greatly enjoyed it. Daughter would have liked it better without the chocolate sauce. For an old building it looked very clean. I stopped in the ladies restroom and it was also very clean. It seems to be a very nice family run operation.

Glad you enjoyed the meal thb.
Mrs. Bear and I ate dinner there last Thursday and had an excellent meal. She had the Shrimp Diablo and it was very good. The shrimp were sweet and, very important, NOT overcooked. The sauce was so flavorful I almost licked the plate when she was finished.
I had a burrito filled with chicken and chorizo with cheese sauce on top. It was also quite good and paled only in comparison to the awesome shrimp.
We have discovered that, at least sometimes, they have three salsas available; mild, hot and quite hot. We also tried the cheese and chorizo dip and really liked it.
Azteca's is not part of a chain. We realized on our fourth visit that the owners live just up the street from us.
