NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Teenage boys who believe men should be strong and silent may be less likely to see the doctor for needed preventive care, a study has found. The research, which followed more than 1,600 U.S. males ages 15 to 19, found that those who held to traditional views of what constitutes a "real man" were less likely to have had a routine doctor visit in the past year. The findings suggest that these boys think that seeing a doctor is a sign of weakness, the study authors report in the journal Pediatrics. This is significant, the researchers say, because experts recommend that all teenagers make annual visits to the doctor for a routine physical and preventive healthcare -- including immunizations for conditions like tetanus and hepatitis B, and screening tests for sexually transmitted diseases story

I hate, hate, hate going to the doctor..... Haven't been to the doctor in probably 2 or 3 years. I guess I really should get a checkup but it's just sooooooo not fun..

Doctors are OK.
Dentists are terrifying.
Edited to add: It's also kind of cool that my doctor is a former NFL doctor. Came here for the good life and to get his kid out of the city.

I hate dentists too. They make me think of Steve Martin in Little Shop of Horrors, heh

I hate go to the doctor's office and I usually only do when I am in severe pain. What I really hate is that doctors are sooo hesitant to prescribe any real pain killers. They think everyone is a drug seeking fiend.

Gee, I dunno...most of the men in my life (other than my dad) were more than willing to see a doctor for minor ailments, especially if the insurance coverage was good. And pain drugs? My son had an ear infection last year. Doctor gave him VICODIN. You should have seen the look on the pharmacist's face when we turned in the prescription. A stern lecture accompanied the filled bottle & printed literature.
Dentists are a different story. We all hate them.
