Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) today voted and expressed strong support for S. 30, the Hope Offered through Principled and Ethical Stem Cell Research (HOPE) Act, sponsored by Sens. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Norm Coleman (R-MN), which Corker says, “allows additional research to take place on stem cells without creating an ethical divide.” Corker voted against S. 5, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, restating his belief that “it is wrong to provide federal funding for stem cell research that destroys human embryos.” Corker stated: “Few of us are untouched by the many illnesses that plague Americans. My own family has been touched by Alzheimer’s disease because my father has it. I have spent a tremendous amount of time looking into this issue, reading white papers, talking to researchers all across America, and visiting an embryonic adoption center." “I have learned that honorable people – who truly want to see cures take place in America and for people all across the world – can disagree as it relates to embryonic stem cell research." www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_105316.asp
