You mean the Central Baptist Country Club and the Godnasium???
(I couldn't agree more.)

Full agreement here, as well.
I saw an HBO documentary just a couple of nights ago about a case in Toledo, OH where a former alter boy and some of his friends ended up suing the catholic church for being abused. It was interesting but sad in many ways.
But one thing that jumped out was that it is apparently in Canon law of the Catholic Church that a priest is directed to "lie" if it is to protect the church.

Stray, as you know, I'm on the opposite side of religious discussions -- I despise the crude & gratuitous slams & slanders on the Christian church forums like this curiously attract & I very much admire Justin's patient & cogent posts in the face of light weight & often irredeemably vacuous quips....
But
"Godnasium"
Now that single metaphor for Abba's House NAILED IT!

It had a better ring to it than 'Jesutorium.'
I don't have a problem with the moral teachings, work ethic, and civilized structure that religious texts teach. I think it's great and folks could learn a lot from it.
I DO have a problem with folks thinking that doing something in a god's name gives them some sort of a blank check...
Religion in its purest form is fine...as soon as you add the human element into it and allow for human interpretation, the original messages get twisted and skewed to something a bit less than 'divine.'
More often that not, the one that the folks end up worshipping is the one standing in the pulpit being the proxy for the 'big guy.'
Sorry....but due to human nature, religion is even more a haven for egotists and personality cults than politics...and -that- is one of the huge things that makes me call bullshit.
Getting back to L. Ron Phillips, I'm a big fan of the fact he's obviously an avid Tolkein reader... That statue of Gandalph and Frodo out front is very heartwearming.
