CANNES, France (AFP) - Michael Moore unveiled his latest attack on America's shortcomings at Cannes on Saturday with "Sicko", a scathing documentary that exposes the dark side of the US health system and its powerful insurance lobby. In the film, played to a packed-out crowd in the film festival's biggest, 2,000-seat theatre, Moore flays a health system that leaves 50 million Americans with no access to medical care -- and which even cruelly pulls the rug out from under many of those who mistakenly think they are properly covered. The documentary fires off side shots at US President George W. Bush, the follow-up to the September 11, 2001 attacks and the Iraq war, all subjects of predilection for Moore, who won Cannes's Palme d'Or in 2004 for "Fahrenheit 9/11". This time, the filmmaker has landed in hot water for a stunt in "Sicko" in which he takes a group of ailing September 11 emergency workers to Cuba, where they receive medical treatment. story

That fat piece of shit needed to stay in Cuba. He'd be much more at home in a strong bastion of communism.
He also needs to do an intensive study of the positive effects of exercise and a balanced diet on the body...maybe use himself as a test subject....

I think the first sentence could be reduced somewhat and still retain the same meaning:
"Michael Moore unveiled his latest attack on America."
Show me just why health care is somehow a right that everyone deserves to get for free, and not simply a service that anyone who can afford it can buy?

Why does Medicare have to be justified every time someone utters the words "health care?" There are co-payments, you realize.
No one is asking the government to pick up the entire tab, just that the government uses the collective power of the Medicare patient base to help negotiate better, more affordable prices on prescription drugs. The VA has negotiated these purchases for years at lower prices.

He slices & dices, I'm sure.
Is this guy merely pointing out the problems or is he actually offering some sort of solution? If he's just pointing out problems, then his work is useless. I'm interested in solutions. And further, what is he doing to help solve the problem?
I speak with unisured people several times every day. I do my best to help them gain access to health care. I don't need a recitation of what's wrong. I need to hear more ideas about how to solve the problem.

Who said Medicare?
Surely you don't want to offer up the VA as a shining example of how the government is better at managing health care?

Surely you don't want to offer up the VA as a shining example of how the government is better at managing health care? Oooh, don't say such scary things! Talk about a nightmare! I think the VA program needs to be privatized. It would be easier & less expensive to educate medical staff to deal with the special needs of veterans than to fully fund and expand VA services in a fitting manner to care for our veterans properly.

Hey Copperhead, Michael Moore is a hatchet artist at best with his style of always pulling the bad in and leaving out the good. The only people that will see this film are the ones who believes everything that this fat fuck has to say is the truth. I heard that he could be facing some jail time by this stunt since he isn't no journalist and he violated the travel boycott against Cuba. I can name a few people that will eat this piece of crap movie up.
Moore needs to stay in cuba and have his citizenship revoked if he truly believes that the world's medical care is better than the USA. No one has the right to medical care since it is a service as well as privilege. I am on medicare and Tenncare but I don't abuse the government's medical system like someone who is down in the projects do. I thank GOD that this country has such a health care system. Since I have been diagnosed with idiopathic peripheral neuropathy, 3 months ago. I have to use it for rehab and also meds for the nerve damaging disease which is IPN. For those who don't understand what IPN is, think of it like MS' lighter cousin which is progressive and no known cures for it.
