so you don't wear a mask? My test showed I quit breathing 177 times in 6.5 hours, so I'm afraid not to. That's what I get though, for being stubborn, when I was little I would actually hold my breath til I passed out when I was mad..... I always tell Thom if you find me lying on the floor unconcious I'm either dead or just really pissed off!

A couple of months ago I was at a brunch with about a dozen others. Almost half suffered from sleep apnea. I had no idea it was so common.

Is it more common in men? I always heard it was. Lucky me!

its more common in men who pack a few extra pounds, and i fit that bill. yeah i dont have the problem when i am on my stomach sleeping. i have never been able to sleep on my back i dont know why, but i sleep like a baby. i wake right up with i am on my back. automatic feature i guess.

got it. got the mask. can't stand the mask. Feels like a gas mask on my face (and yes, I do know what one feels like). I wake up in the middle of the night clawing at the thing. I'm looking into other types of face masks and possibly surgery.

I'm like justme. I have a mask, but almost NEVER wear it. Too much plastic, and it's uncomfortable as hell. I've found that when I lose a few pounds, my apnea eases off. I also sleep on my stomach. I've also considered the surgery, but losing a few pounds is healthy anyway, so that's usually my cure.

Been wearing mine for about 3 weeks. Hate it, but it lets the wife sleep at night, so its worth it.. I do think I need a larger one, but insurance won't pay for another for two more months.
Sounds like you were worse than me. I only stopped breathing 130 times (over 30 is considered severe).

I think a device is in my future, too -- like TNBear, I've been surprised to discover how many people I know are in the same boat. Sign of the times, I guess...

I've had mine for about 3 months now, got used to it real quick once I had the correct size.... I needed a longer one as I wear a full mask (nose and mouth) I called back and they gave me a new one no charge. If you've only had one for three weeks and it is the wrong size they probably fitted you wrong (at least that's what they admitted to me) and they were very nice about re-fitting me. The first two weeks was awful but once they gave me the correct size it's fine. You should call them.

All I know is when I was dating someone that had it I was happy when he didn't try to spend the night.

What always confused me is this talk of "stopping breathing" in your sleep. Isn't it all OK since people obviously started breathing again?

All I know is when I was dating someone that had it I was happy when he didn't try to spend the night. Anti-C-PAP Bias. It's rampant, I tell you! Prejudice based on the fact that you look and sound like Darth Vader when you're hooked to the thing.

No, it was because he made so damn much noise snoring I couldn't sleep.

When the breathing stops briefly, sometimes 100+ times a night, it takes a toll on several bodily functions, not the least of which is the heart.

Amazingly, Worm no longer snores! I know, those of you that have heard him may be surprised too! And I do not mind sleeping with a fighter pilot!

My husband has had his CPAP for a few months. He uses a small mask that fits in the nostrils. It's about the size of an egg and is very quiet. At first it hurt his nose, so he would swap back and forth with the big mask every night or two, but now he just uses the small one.

I don't think I'll be able to use one of those. I tend to mouth breath too much.

I have a c-pap machine and mask. I am like shooter weight contributes to my apnea. I have to tell you when we do wear them we are oh so sexy together We are basically the same way though as long as he sleeps on his left side no snoring and as long as I sleep on my right side no snoring. We probably don't take wearing our masks seriously enough though.

Well, I can see right now that we could all never spend the night together. The roof would blow off!

At the fire I just came from, I could hear the guy that was six tents away, snoring very loudly.
