Last night, the Red Bank City Council decided not to ban guns in their parks. The vote was 4-1, despite passionate pleas from some in the audience, including Judge Russell Bean. Red Bank Police Chief Larry Sneed told the council that since 2007, 7 policemen and 44 citizens have been shot by gun carry permit-holders in Tennessee. Mayor Joe Glasscock, the only “no” vote, said the decision will come back to haunt the city. The opposite happened in Lookout Mountain. The town council there quickly approved a ban on handguns in parks, opting out of a new state law which allows permitted gun-owners to carry there. Town Attorney Brian Smith told the council there was already a ban on guns in the books, but that the new state law made it necessary to re-enforce their position. The small community has 35 parks, recreation areas and greenways. chattanoogapulse.com/newsfeatures/news-feature/red-bank-lookout-mtn-decide-on-guns-in-parks/

One has to wonder, will this actually CHANGE anyone's actions?

Actually, his was the only "yes" vote. The resolution was to ban guns from certain city areas.

Yes. It may well affect my votes next time around, and I suspect, the votes by some other people.

Thanks Yoda and friends for fighting to be heard. I am not a resident of Rb or TN or I would have been there to allow my voice to be added.
Yoda for Mayor of Red Bank.

OSRB - anyone can go to the RB City Council meetings and they don't check your ID to verify you are a resident of Red Bank before letting you speak.
But you will need to move there if you want to vote for Yoda for Vice Mayor*.

Normally, that's true, but the mayor did ask that only Red Bank residents speak about the guns issue.

gridBug, you know me too well.
Also, it's not like RB residents get to vote for mayor or vice mayor. It's more like the five commissioners draw straws and the loser has to be mayor.
Don't get bent out of shape, mayor. I'm just kidding, I think.

He was wrong. Those numbers are for the entire country and the study they came from is very suspect. For instance, one of the victims included in those numbers was strangled by a guy that happened to also have a carry permit.

Ask the residence of Kennesaw, GA. They seem to be able to live with it.

east ridge has joined redbank as being the only two who have currently said that they will not opt out of the parks carry law.

That is embarrassing, but then again, he is a Chief. In the future, Chief Sneed should read here before he makes any further erroneous spouting of the "facts".
