Turns out part of the reason the pain lasted longer than expected is that I'm allergic to Oxycodone (Percocet_. They make me stoned, yes, but don't knock me out or do much to relieve pain. They also make me itch and upset my stomach.
I have such limited experience with pain killers, I didn't realize for several days that the Oxy wasn't working the way it should. Once I did, I switched over to Ibuprofen and began to feel much better.
In my adult lifetime, the only prescription painkillers I've ever taken are Vicodin, Demerol, Codeine, and now Oxycodone/Percocet. So I really had no real comparison or experience to compare, plus I have this inherited high tolerance for pain thing.
So, I'm swinging by the pharmacy this morning to return the remaining pills (the responsible thing to do) and picking up some more Ibuprofen.
