Not looking forward to that dog of a hotel though. Sure, there's not much better, but damn that place sucks.

It's under new ownership and all new management. The new owner cleaned house and kept maybe two that was there last year. He's currently doing almost 2 million in renovations. The restaurant is completely overhauled and is now a sports bar, which the owner is keeping under motel control so he can close it for group use and private parties. (no fiasco like last year with Dave Mayes running the joint) The lobby has been extended all the way to the island at the far end of the drive under canopy (it's now larger than what the Comfort has). The first floor rooms are being renovated (stripped to the bare walls with all new paint, wall paper, carpet, fixtures and furniture). when those are finished they will be doing the other floors, as well. So you might want to hold off judgment till you check it out. Trust me, there's not much that impresses me, anymore, but I was really surprised when I saw what they were doing.

I'm in the process of buying a house so I doubt I'll make it this year. We'll see about next year though.

Dutch - I agreed with Worm until you talked about the changes! We did not know that the hotel was remodeling and were basing our opinions on what we saw last year. We were thinking of taking a miss this year, but now, I'm looking forward to it! Thanks for the update.

I'll reserve judgment until I see it, then, and cross my fingers. Once bitten and all...
Oh, is the bar still down a flight of stairs where someone in a wheelchair can't get in or did they fix that?

I just got back from a walkabout in the hotel. WOW!! the lobby is HUGE! Still in the finishing out stages. Restaurant is nice, Flat screens GALORE. I am seeing a 2 am 9-ball tourney very possible. NOTHING but praise.
The subject of wheel chair access was brought up. There is a ramp into the restaurant from the lobby and from outside.

Looks like my photos aren't enough to get me in, like they are at EVERY other Chattanooga con, so I won't be attending. but don't worry I already have two bodypaint bookings.. (I can do a couple more if anyone is interested)

Hmmmm. My math must be way off. I thought 2 out of 5 was 2/5ths, not all as in "EVERY other".
Anyhow, at this past FantaSciCon 25% of the attendees had comp badges, and that's one of the best ways I know for a con to go under. After doing 22 conventions during the past 16 years I am seriously considering instituting another one of Uncle Timmy's policies with LibertyCon, "everyone" pays. Directors, dept. heads, volunteer staff, everyone pays the same rate, depending on when they pre-reg. That way no one complains about not getting a free membership and the paying members can't complain as to "Why do they get a free one and I have to pay?"

It was the year Dragon Con quit comping at least half my badge that I and many others quit working security. Why work the con if you get no benefit out of it?
Something to think about, Dutch. Charge the workers to go and they have less incentive to help put on a good convention.

I am well aware of that and will continue as we have been. I really do wish we could do more for staff than what we do. I just have to vent, once in a while. I know I shouldn't put this here, the way so many jump on things like this like a pack of rabid animals, but, I really do get tired of people getting all pissy because they don't get free memberships. They eat, drink and enjoy just like everyone else, and some even make a buck or two in the process, but they always want to do it on someone else's dime. I've even had people brag about how many cons they have been to and never had to pay for a membership, and if they did have to pay, they just wouldn't go.
Anyhow, the staff discounts on memberships and T-shirts will remain intact. Not because I have to (LibertyCon always seems to have enough staff without discounts), but because I want to.

Oh I understand. I find folk that go to con after con taking advantage of the work put into making it happen without either lifting a hand to assist in that work or paying for the privilege pretty sleazy. I'm just saying that I quit working cons that made me pay full price before I quit working cons entirely (and later just quit going at all).

I really do get tired of people getting all pissy because they don't get free memberships. The way I see it, for me at least, I trade photos for access. Full size on CD. no worries, I've still got a month to decide if I want to go. [shrug]
