I have an unhealthy obsession with the Duggar family of Arkansas and their TLC show, "18 Kids and Counting". Probably because I have 5 kids and we homeschool, yet we are the antithesis of the super-fundie, religious Duggars. Anyway, we traveled over to Dollywood Friday for their Homeschool Day, and of course there were numerous Duggar-esque families there, and my kids and I shamelessly gawked at them. I had seen these bathing suits on the Duggar girls on TV, but Friday I got to actually see them on REAL LIVE GIRLS: www.wholesomewear.com/slimmer-c.htmlAnd these girls had on the extended, long sleeved/long legged version. Quite a change from the usual Dollywood patron costume of wife beater shirts, cutoffs, multiple tattoos and mullets. Now, I'm not one to let it all hang out, but I felt positively decadent in my shorts and heathen-themed T shirt. Can you imagine how HOT those things are? Shannon (going straight to Hell)

I've no problem with that swimwear as long as the men are swimming in long sleeve shirts too..

I had to see the webpage. Rather than being for religious fanatics, it seems geared and marketed to those who feel like they have to cover up to feel comfortable. IE plus sized, etc. "The Slimming Swimwear." I could see people who would need it, those with issues with the sun, etc. People with hairy backs. If someone is super religious they probably will not go to the beach anyway. Too many people in thongs... And that is just the middle aged german men.

Those remind me of the 'original' ladies' swim suits that looked like little girl's night gowns with pantaloons under them.
As for needing to cover, when our son was about 2 years old, we took him to Florida for the first time. As all three of us are painfully WHITE, we didn't want to burn or be tied to the sunscreen. I made us a set of three spandex 'dive suits'. The one for Jake was red with white diamonds on the chest like a Power Ranger. We got more comments on "WHERE did you get a dive suit for a kid???" I could probably make a hell of a lot of money making these and selling them in Florida. Easiest way to keep your kid from burning like bacon in the pan is to cover him up!

Yikes!!! Those look hot... I think I will stick with cut offs and a T-shirt or a bikini at the beach! Laura (going straight to Hell behind Shannon)

Why are we constrained to believing that I should be, or look like you or you like me? As to going to hell, is that between the individual and their God?

It's about time modesty made a partial comeback.

Shannon (going straight to Hell) That's right but different shapes and sizes of modest swimwear are also available which will be very suitable to any body type.

I get that some folks go for it due to body image. Hell, I've never worn a bikini because I just don't like them. On the other hand, for triathlon training I often got in the water in bike shorts and a sport bra so, whatever.
It's not the swimwear itself, it's the driving force behind the families insisting the girls wear them. I don't advocate laws against it, but I have distaste for the implication that women's bodies must be covered at all times as if ashamed of them, that women who don't are somehow "sluts" and hence probably deserve (as often seems to be the mindset of these types) to be raped or accosted. Now, I realize not everyone who would want their kids to dress this way believes that the body is shameful, but that's the message all too often received. As is the mentality that women who don't lock themselves away or allow themselves to be locked in a cage somehow deserve attack.
I'm sure y'all will disagree.

But just to be agreeable, WK.

If I had to choose (thank goodness I don't) I'd rather see everybody dressed like that, than have to see my grossly over weight neighbor mow his yard without a shirt.
just commenting.

I keep wanting to post a message at the duck pond at Chatt State with the text, “No skinny dipping before 5 o’clock.” If such a sign ever shows up there, I’m in trouble.
