This pharmacist and "new MD in town" don't know dick about the doctors in this town. We have some of the best in the US right here in Chattanooga (Cauley Hayes knows more about hands and wrists than practically any other doctor in the world and pioneered about 90% of the procedures done for things like carpal tunnel and arthritis, there's a neuro group at Erlanger that pioneered a new way to treat stroke patients by removing the clot in the brain, what is now common practice for hysterectomies was pioneered at East Ridge Hospital in the 80's to name three). Erlanger Hospital is one of the best teaching hospitals in the business and TC Thompson's a top notch Children's Hospital with (again) some of the best children's docs around (Lisa Smith and Pete Kelley to name two).
Don't believe everything you read in the rag... I mean, newspaper or hear on the news. The only negative thing about patient care that I am familiar with in the past ten years regarding any of the hospitals is the unusually high infection rate at Erlanger, and that hasn't been investigated publicly to my knowledge (the rumored reason why the burn center was shut down).
Then again, considering who started this thread, I shouldn't be surprised about the negativity regarding anything that happens here. I'd really like to know the name of this "prominent pharmacist" (considering that 99% of the pharmacists in town work at drug store chains or Wal-Mart, I don't know that there is such an animal) and this "new MD in town" is most likely a resident who doesn't know much outside of the medical schooling that he just got. There have been some damn good doctors listed on here, and I can think of at least a dozen more ranging from OB/GYN to Internists to Orthos to General Surgeons.
In other words billvol, if you don't like our doctors, go back to Atlanta (many of whom trained at Erlanger).

Dr. Walter Rose - excellent general surgeon, breast cancer surgeon, and gastric lapband/bypass surgeon. When I asked around to our nurse and doctor friends, they ALL said that is who they would use or have used for procedures.
Vickie Cooke-Erdoes - best Nurse Practicioner in a famiily practice ever.
