(from an e-mail, slightly edited. Be sure to read the "Demands" part.)
This week we [Red Bank city commission] received notice announcing a "TOWN HALL MEETING". IMPORTANT INFORMATION WAS OMITTED. Commissioner Pierce has requested $500,000 from the City Of Red Bank to buy or build a Senior Center, for a group of 10-12 people. Three votes from the Commission make this a reality. THE MAYOR AND I ARE STRONGLY OPPOSED.
This privately funded group is currently meeting at a Dayton Boulevard address, on Wednesdays, 10-2, Thursday and Friday nights 6-?. Admission is charged to the events.
A Community Center has recently been built behind Erlanger North. Programs for Senior Citizens begin September 14th, on Mondays and Thursdays, 10am-2pm. A recent open house was held with 90+ seniors, ages ranging from 55-85. Erlanger and the City are partners in this program, and will provide health screenings, exercise classes, nutrition classes, etc. A survey was done to see what events and activities they would participate in. Requests included the Erlanger Programs, Bocce Ball, Horse Shoes, Board Games, Cards, Bingo, Arts and Crafts, Painting, Quilting, Needle Work, Flower Arranging, and Nature Walks. Water Aerobics will be offered when the RB Pool is open. We hope to extend the days in the future. We will be operating the programs with volunteers. The needs of Seniors in the Red Bank Area will be met with this program.
The Dayton Blvd. group was offered the use of the Community Center free of charge. Wilma Hampton, the director, declined the invitation after the list of their demands to the City Manager were declined.
Demands: The city build a stage, furnish a sound system, allow musicians to store personal equipment, provide all maintenance, pay all utilities and turn over full possession of the building to her group. They refused programs or activities provided, Did not want any Departments from the City, Chamber or any other Citizens Group to have access to the Building.
I URGENTLY REQUEST YOU ATTEND THE "TOWN HALL MEETING" [Monday] SEPTEMBER 14, at Red Bank Middle School Auditorium @ 6:30 pm.
Commissioner Jones requested the "Town Hall Meeting". He would like to hear from the Citizens on this issue. Please plan to attend, let you opinions be known, Pro or Con.
Sincerely,
Red Bank Commissioner
Ruth Jeno
