The folks at Merriam-Webster must have noticed the date, as well. The Word of the Day today is "ennead," a group of nine. I immediately thought of the Nazgul from The Lord of the Rings, but the Beatles and other associations occurred to me as well. I didn't notice the date connection until reading this thread.

They were 1100 years late, 09/09/0909 was the real cool day. 09/09/2009 doesn't cut it, and makes the Europeans laugh at us.
