In 2007, Steve Hargis, long-time codes enforcement and administrator in the City Neighborhood Services department, was accused of theft from the city by way of vouchers he signed. In the Chattanoogan today, there is a story on the dismissal of charges against Hargis. I had many dealings with Steve over a number of years, and always found it incredible that theft charges could be levied against him. I am very glad he has been cleared. In my opinion, he was a hard-working, smart and dedicated city employee. I wish him well in his effort to reclaim the job he performed so ably.

I've lost track of Steve since I "went out of the business" in the mid-80's; I found him to be fair, upright, pleasant but never one to "look for an edge" or to benefit by virtue of his position.
As for some others....

I will be proud to see Steve come out on top of this. He is a good man and dedicated employee.
