Words still cannot express my emotions from that day.

A girl came over last night to pick up a CD. She told me she lost her uncle that day. My niece was a block away when the first plane hit, watching from her boss' office when the second plane hit.

Starting just before 8:45 this morning, MSNBC ran a tape of the NBC Today show from that moment on September 11, 2001. Live coverage, matching minute for minute with the actual times. I've turned it off now, but it was like being in a time warp, and brought back all the feelings of horror and rage and grief I felt that day. Babs watched with me a while, then had to go back to bed - worked late last night.

Every 9/11 since 2001 I have felt sick to my stomach. I turned on the Today Show getting ready to go the Knoxville on 9/11/2001 when I saw the first tower burning. They were talking about a "small private plane" hitting the tower. As I was watching I saw the second plane hit. God rest the innocent souls of NYC, the Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania.

I look pretty young, but I'm just back-dated.

Every year I learn something new about the attacks -- like the Marriott hotel that was wedged between the two towers. Fire personnel and hotel staff acted quickly enough to get nearly everyone out before the buildings collapsed right on top of it, but they estimate 40 souls were lost. Part of the building had been double-reinforced after the 1993 bombing, and that saved several people. They're showing it again tomorrow: www.history.com/shows.do?action=detail&episodeId=481856

Something I learned this year is that 9/11 also marks the anniversary of the introduction of the Ford Pinto in 1970. Apparantly it's the perfect day for unnecessary fiery twisted metal deaths.
