Speaking of BiLo, I just heard that they have been sold to Food Lion. Any one else hear that?

I'm what you might call a grocery shopping "geek"......specials,coupons,buy 1 get 1 free,etc.....I plan our meals around the "deals and specials of the week that come in wednesday's paper.I'm all about quality but also saving $$$. For the canned goods, beauty products, milk, pet food,it's Wal Mart.Yeah I try to limit my Wal Mart experience but for those items it makes sense (cents)........for produce (in season) it's the produce stand next to Access Pharmcay near Hixson Pk......if not Publix produce surpasses the others.........breads,deli,and cheese selections by far Publix.....seafood and meats...wait for the specials--easily Publix.......bakery items..Publix,BiLo has a very uninspiring bakery selection. The only time biLo comes into play is if they have a better price on some beef/salmon I want to grill for that week or running specials on soft drinks. So you get my drift..Publix rocks!!! The store is clean, the deli sandwiches are outstanding, potato salads, mcaroni salads, chicken salads-made in house are top quality but the most glaring difference is customer service---friendly,helpful and effiicient. Yup ,love Publix. So, if you get your canned goods and stuff you can get anywhere at Wal Mart, and have the means to spend a little more for quality--there's nothing close in this town.BiLo and Food Lion are boring and unless they get on the customer service "bandwagon"....they'll get what they give.

Back to topic......
I think BiLo may have fallen to a "roar" of competition

I'm not sure about the rest of town, but on Hwy 58, the BiLo, while far inferior to the one I used to go to in Riverview, as well as the one that used to be a Winn Dixie in Harrison, still beats the pants off of the Food Lion just down the street.

Oh, I used to shop for the "bargains" until the price of gas stopped me short. Now, its just get enough food to eat. After all, we are working AMERICANS, not mexican illegals.

Ingles or Publix for me. ALL the Bi-Los close to me suck - horrible produce sections and basically not very clean. Food Lions are not much better either.
*oops, missed Ingles. Went there tonight.

WalMart's generic soy sauce is all soy, no wheat. If you want to play it safe ask for tamari instead of soy sauce, or carry your own

And where was the Chattanooga location of Harris Teeter, rune? Sorry, Bill, just noticed the question. 'sfar as I know, there wasn't one here, but there were a few in Atlanta and oh, how I lurrved that place. Gone way too soon, just like Bruno's. Two chains that landed briefly in ATL, just long enough to make me love 'em, and then vanished. But Kroger is forever, apparently.

Somehow Food Lion is close to buying Bi Lo
Locally they are not relevant in the grocery store wars but apparently, regionally anyway, they are doing well enough to at least be in discussions to purchase what appears to be a rather strong player in Bi Lo.
i eat @ greenlife (eat, not shop) & virtually never go grocery shopping. since the economic downturn that's been my big spending cut.

virtually never go grocery shopping. since the economic downturn that's been my big spending cut. Same here. Having an empty fridge is so depressing. I almost think it's a conspiracy -- we can afford to go out and grab one meal, but can't afford to go to the store and stock up so we don't have to go out & eat junk food. Then again (before anyone else says it) laziness and poor planning on our parts probably are a factor as well.

If you can't afford groceries you might like this. Even if you can afford groceries you might like it.
