I shop at BiLo because the manager stocks my favorite bread that I can't find anywhere else. Went to Publix one time, won't go back.

I hope your Publix has a better selection in their produce section than mine. The last time I was in a Bi-Lo in your area I was impressed by the produce.

I'd love to have that Pruitts back. A lot of their old employees work at Greenlife, but they don't sell Diet Sprites or diet bread or cheap no fat cheese. The closest stores to Grid and us or the BiLos on Signal Mt. Blvd or Red Bankistan.

Babs, they have YOUR kind of "Diet Sprites" at Greenlife I'm sure they have good stuff, but I've only been there a few times. It just isn't a grocery store.

The new Chattanooga Times Free Press "Best of the Best" names Publix as "Best Supermarket" in Chattanooga, as voted by the readers of the TFP. But there is a Bi-Lo ad in the publication in which Bi-Lo claims they won it. So which is it?

From what I've seen and few times I've been in Publix, Bi-Lo has better prices.

Over all, I prefer Food Lion. Bi-Lo has good sales and a nice deli department.

The Publix in Hixson has a great produce section. Prices vary by item, sometimes very competitive, sometimes not. The seafood counter is also top notch. Usually a good selection of wild caught fresh as well as the previously frozen farmed stuff. Today they had mussels for $1.99/lb., very inexpensive. For a couple of weeks they had wild caught fresh Pacific Salmon for $9.99/lb., also a great deal.
No, I do not work there.
No one market does everything, we also shop Bi-Hi, Food Lion and Greenlife.

C'mon, the results printed in the"best of" section are driven by everything else that's printed in the tfp, the winners provide the most ad revenue annually.

After checking some of the other "winners" (Luther, Cindy Sexton, Mark Kennedy, Neil Pascal) I can only conclude that the handful of people who voted were blue-haired old ladies with lots of time on their hands...

Pepperidge Farm sandwich bread. Period, end of subject. The worst thing on the face of the earth is Texas toast. I can't stand thick bread, makes me sick and unable to eat. Love that Pepperidge Farm. Oh Yeah.

Oh, by the way - if you want really great beer, go to Canada. Hic up. Oh Yeah. Lots of good stuff that you can't buy in the US. Vienna in the pony. The best. If its cold, they will take it inside and warm it up. There is no ice tea, there is no ice in cola. What a wonderful place. Loved the fishing. Get up, catch worms, catch perch, and then use them as bait to catch the Great Northerns or Walleyes. Life at its best.

I gave up on the TFP readers choice when they kept naming Chef Lin the best Chinese buffet in town. There's not a damn thing there worth eating, and I normally love Chinese food!

I don't know, Worm and I rather liked Chef Lin, unless they've changed.
We made them quake when we walked through the door together.

They're ok I guess, but I wouldn't call what they serve "Chinese food." More like "soy laden gut bombs."

I call it a laxative

I get "lax" between the eyes after spending an hour eating about two pounds of it, whatever it is!
For $7.81, the Price is definitely Right!

I can't say, given the choice I lean toward restaurants with menus. I believe most Americans prefer their chinese food to be americanized, but then most Americans shy way from food that still has a face

For best Chinese food in Chattanooga, I'd go with Mandarin Garden.

I don't know about Chef Lin's. Sometimes it is good, sometimes not so much. Consistently good for a buffet is Asia Buffet on Lee Highway. Consistently bad is Buffet King in Hixson (although for some reason my mother likes it, go figure).
Oh, and Cat, haven't you seen the commercials? Soy is the food of the gods or something like that and should give you Joy. Or not...

It might Worm, if it were soy sauce made from actual soy instead of soy sauce made from wheat as most of it is.

Is that why the stuff in the little packets tastes like crap? I can't find too many ingredient lists for them online, although of the ones I do see most are soy and corn. One lists "vegetable protein" which could be wheat. I see Kari-Out makes a gluten free packet. Didn't know anyone used that crap to cook with though.
Looking a little more, I come to find my favorite brand (Kikkioman) uses wheat as well. Of course, wheat doesn't bother me, but I didn't realize it was an integral part of their product (they even list it as an advantage over "traditional" Chinese soy sauce).
