A few of you have 'met' my big fuzzy lovey dog Jett. For the rest, Jett is part Chow and very fluffy. After not having a bath in over a year, he was also quite stinky. As rainy as it has been this summer, I just didn't have the heart to bathe him on the days he was actually DRY for a change.
Last week, he got into a patch of beggar lice and those little seed pods were caught in his hair all over. He was looking pretty matted up - and stinky - so I brought him inside and started working on him. While combing out the mess, most of his under coat came out. Now, I don't know if that was LAST year's winter coat that never shed this summer or his NEW coat coming in. Either way, it's mostly gone now as it came out very easily.
Today, we have a cold snap. I'm kind of worried about my old buddy growing a new coat in time for winter. Is he going to be ok?

Why don't you ask his vet? That's what I would do if any of my babies even sneezed.

You did him a favor. Instead of that mass of hair on him he now has the equivalent of new insulation. As long as you didn't shave him that is. A good brushing is the best thing for him.

I might make him a jacket - A rain slicker.

Take a picture of the dog so we can see how thin his coat is. I imagine he's still got more coat than your average coon dog.

As far as I know the East Ridge pet wash is still open. They have clippers there and it usually runs less than $20 for a wash and clip.

I'm glad Strega doesn't require such questions. He's got one thin layer of constantly shedding fur. A bath for him can consist of a wet dishcloth and he's clean. The downside is, he can't stay out in extreme heat or cold or inclement weather, but he's a good companion in the house. He doesn't make a mess beyond leaving his fur scattered about like a cat might, doesn't make much noise, doesn't talk back... the worst thing he does is demand his walks be consistently on time.
