Just wondered if anyone here has had any first hand experience (good or bad) with Comcast phone service or know anyone who has.
I've been considering changing from AT&T but need to know if there are any serious negatives to consider.

screw comcrap. go with EPB fiber. Ditto... Or you can go "magicJack" for $70 you get 6 years service AND pick a custom vanity phone number. (ie like mine - 423 655 TPIT)

Thanks guys for your replies but according to the EPB site "Service is not currently available at your address" otherwise, I think this is an excellent choice. Maybe in time, it will be in my area.
I know nothing about the MagicJack. Read a few reviews. From the sound of it this thing works for some and has been a royal pain for others. Are you happy with your connection Joedog and the quality of the calls? Any down side?

I do not want to put all my eggs in one basket. If you use the same company for Internet, cable, and phone, when one goes out, they all go out.

Any down side? 3 people on my block have the service, and when i go to the epb site, it says this: We were unable to determine if service is available at your location. Please call 423-648-1EPB (1372) to determine availability at your address. do not believe what the internet site tells you. call them to see if it is ready in your area.

If you use the same company for Internet, cable, and phone, when one goes out, they all go out. incorrect. the only way all three of these services from comcrap would be bothered is if a line went down. the internet, phone and digital TV all use different operating frequencies across the spectrum. if the internet goes down, that does not mean the phone service would be out as well. is that possible? yes, but highly unlikely.

We have Comcast internet, cable and phone service. When our cable service goes out for any reason we also lose phone and internet. And lately it seems to happen 2-3 times per week. I also have a Comcast internet line for my work computer and plan to switch to EPB as soon as it is available (already got it OK'd by my employer)

I use EPB for cable and internet. It is two separate lines. In fact the internet doesnt even use a modem, just a direct line to your computer or wireless router.
Comcast cable/internet/phone comes all off one line. My experience was when one was out, they were all out. Then the calling began. Usually they would answer and fix it within a day or two, if they didnt have anything else to do or it wasn't raining or too sunny or a weekday or weekend. Or morning, or evening.

Luckily, I haven't had many problems w/ Comcast. I have cable and internet w/ 'em, and it's all up 99% of the time.. I do wish I could get EPB's extra DVR tuners though. It would be nice if Comcast updated their DVR boxes...

Jay, I too haven't had any serious issues with Comcast whatsoever over the past (at least) 15 yrs. That's why I was hoping someone would have recommended their phone service. I am interested in EPB's package so I guess I'll check that out along with Joedog's MagicJack.
What I'm wanting is free long distance from my home phone. I can use my cell but for some reason, I hate cell phones with a white hot passion...
Vonage is another choice but I know no one who has that service either.
Thanks everyone for your input. Appreciate it!

I have Comcast cable and internet but not phone. Several of my neighbors have the phone along with internet and cable and love it. I can't switch to Comcast phone because I have to run a PhoneTree system from my PC. If it weren't for that, I'd probably switch over. My cable went out late one night last week, but I still had internet service. I had a nice chat with Comcast online about my cable. They said the server was down for maintenance. I've also had my internet go out intermittently but still had cable. I don't remember the internet and cable going out at the same time.

I don't talk that much. I don't have a home phone and rarely use my cell phone.
