I'm driving to Savannah next week, can I trust my GPS or are there alternate routes I should take?

I have traveled I-16 regularly for over 20 years.
Never had a problem, although the gas station/restaurant choices are very limited past the 3 Dublin exits until you near Savannah.
Hardly saw a Trooper and when I did I just flipped the blue lights and he or she just waved. Curiously, I haven't gotten a ticket or even been stopped in 20 years.

Just curious, do you have the FOP license or emblem displayed? I didn't ask trying to be a smartass.

Most of the time I was in a patrol car and other times, my personal vehicle with no FOP or PBA sticker.

Even with the GPS, have an old fashioned paper map in the car. Those things are not always correct.

I have been accused (as of Sunday) of having EVERYTHING in my car. The folks that were making room in it noted my bike helmet, water bottles, a dog bed, a shovel, bike pump, maybe hangers.. not sure what all they moved to the trunk, I'm still re-"organizing" it.
Among the many other items are a handful of old fashioned state maps. I have a map of Iowa, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia... I think I have Michigan in there too but I'm not sure. What I can tell you is, I used them recently. I have the GPS function on my iPhone and use it Ah Lot, but sometimes I run out of 3G service areas. Some of the places I get to are pretty remote. That's why just a week ago Saturday I had out my Tennessee map to determine the route from where I WAS to Reelfoot Lake using backroads. It was nice knowing I had that handy.

Following a GPS blindly got me stuck a few miles outside of St. Marys, Kansas once. The following was my view: I had a very similar view no matter the direction I turned. I named that photo "Desolation". Use a GPS only in conjunction with your own reasonable judgment. Warkitty, I've driven your car. You do have EVERYTHING in it. At least I didn't have to move the seat back to get in.

Not everything! I don't carry a kitchen sink or a toilet.

No, we took those items out and put them in storage so you could carry some other things to Chattanooga. You did have a trenching tool, though, and with that and those towels I could have a toilet just about anywhere.

GPS's are also annoying about directing you through areas you can't go, like through the middle of a military base, or a card-only entry/exit to a gated community.

Wk...don't feel bad, I am known for having everything in my car too. My friends have said that is a nuclear bomb went off they would want to be in my car cause they know they could survive it. And that they need a sherpa to help them find he seat Two weeks ago I got my car detailed on the inside (for the frst time in the 5 years that I have had it) I THOUGHT I got everything out of it but the guy found a can a tuna fish (unopened) a bottle of water, various pens and pencils, change a cell phone I thought I had lost (!) and ......a round for a 7.62/39...at that point he stopped what he was doing and asked if maybe he should stop what he was doing because "maybe I am cleaning a crime scene or something, was the car used in the commision of a crime?" Bwhahaha! Good thing he didn't look in the trunk...firewood, cinder blocks, the bedding I use for camping, a three ton floor jack, tool kit, mardi gras beads (of course)...and that is just the top layer..honestly I am afraid to dig too far down..
Oh and Bob, just mapquest it..very straightforward drive..just be careful of deer on the stretch of interstate from Macon to Savannah and make sure you fill up before you hit that stretch..very few filling stations along the way..

IMHO, One of the advantages of a Savannah "vacation" is the simplistic road trip, 75 to 16... 0 red lights until you are suddenly in downtown Savannah. 16 is a long stretch of nothing though. If you have not visited there previously, it's a great spot. (River Street may be a little tough on wheels--cobblestones)

Things are better in Metter. Stop there. The old post office is a nice historic site. Visit it. The Dairy Queen in Metter is an old style one that's does it right.
Watch out on I-16; it's a long flat straight road and you'll want to speed. The GSP WILL get you.
Tybee is too cold to visit now and the accommodations suck.
Make sure you visit Bonaventure Cemetery; the entrance to the cemetery is located at 330 Bonaventure Road.
Hit the Park District and Bay Street.
The Lady Chablis can be seen at Club One.
Post pictures.

Try the back roads atlas. They are great. Oh, yeah, you have to stop to read them. And enjoy the view. Good luck.
