America Recycles Day Computer Recycling Event 2009 - at Technology Lifecycle in Hixson on Saturday November 14th from 10am to 4pm at 4818 Hixson Pike across from Burger King.
Technology Lifecycle will collect computers and their peripherals along with household electronics.
Computer and electronic items are accepted for FREE and TVs and CRT Monitors will be accepted for $10.
No alkaline batteries or household wastes will be accepted.

Any idea what they are actually going to DO with the computers? If they are just going to scrap them, consider other possible uses.
Many older computers are actually still quite serviceable, and many people who can't afford new computers could make use of working but older machines. I recently took an IBM Aptiva with a Pentium 233 processor and loaded Debian Lenny Linux on it and it runs. Yes, its slow, but slow is better than nothing. A PII 450 is actually quite usable for basic web surfing and email (it will choke on Youtube and HULU, but those aren't essential apps for most).
I'm not particularly a "greenie", and recycling them is better than putting them into a landfill, but eeking every bit of use out of them before recycling them is even greener.

there are also companies that buy old PC parts because there are old machines that need them (like manufacturing robots).
a 486 chip is really expensive if you need one to make your million dollar robot run...

I just sold a 68030 board for 100.00 It came with 1 meg of ram.
