I mean to tell you/Yall:Your city is fantasmic!!! Just got back form there & I miss it already...met up w/ my GF for a week in Scenic City. We are both moving there in the Spring!...she lives in SC,I live in Austin...Here's what my persnickety self digs about Chattanooga:
*Green & clean(a sense of real "Eco"consciousness there!) *Not too big...not too small(not a lot of sprawl, esp. west of city) *Lots to do...Nature/outdoors & culturally *Good Vibe(ya dig?!) *Proximity to the hell-holes of other nearby cities/megalopolises *Relatively inexpensive(compared to Austin, food is cheap here) *It's in Tennessee(I lived in Tullahoma as a kid) *Old buildings everywhere(Preservation is a good thing!) *Alcohol laws are way better than Texas BS *Hip,but not too hip(I only saw 2 'alt girls'/1 'alt' boy',you know the type)
That's all for now...Peace & Joy

First of all, it is Y'all. And, you haven't mentioned the greatest of Chattanooga, THE PEOPLE. They are the finest in the world. Talk about scenery, go to Lookout Mountain. Talk about things to do, go to The Aquarium. Try Hunter Museum of Art. PLEASE don't forget Antique Annie's, The Houston Museum. One more thing - TVRM. The only train museum in the United Stated with an operating turn table. Want to taste something, how about Mayfield Milk, it started here.
Oh, I should mention that is a Southern City that expects gentility.

I spell y'all "yall", so what?! You're only the second person who has even mentioned it...the first one was a churl. I did mention the people as in the "vibe",cool as well as nice(like they used to be in Austin!). Rented a cottage on Lookout Mtn.,bought $40 worth of souvenirs at Rock City as well (American excess or a Rock City fetish? Was 'disappointed' it is in Georgia).I don't 'do' aquariums or Moon-Pies but like some Little Debbie stuff. The brew-pubs were good too! I'll check out the train musuem next time!Wanted to ride the one there(goes into the mountains) but didn't make time.

NO! I mean the too-hip type with glasses, tattoos, piercings et al...Jeez!
The type meaning"I want to be different, just like all the other different people..."(King Missile band;circa '93 ish)... Typically youngish,self-indulgent,self-centered wannabees who think they're cool when they're just covering up their lack of soul!

This idiot doesn't belong here. Period. It is Y'all. Short for you all. Ofcourse I never understood that when a parent was speaking to one child. But it is Y'all. I have conformed, and truly belong is the greatest southern city in the South.
Don't think we want caryc here. I would rather have a stubborn mule. Oh wait, Jack Ass = caryc.

Y'all behave! Who tinkled in your Cheerios? The blue laws say you're supposed to stay out of the fire water on Sunday.
Welcome aboard CaryC. Don't worry about some of the more 'outspoken' members of the forum. The more they pick on you, the more they like you. Just ask MikeyDokey. *giggle*

The first time I heard that, my sister-in-law was talking to her son. No one else in the room. Poor me, I had only been South of the Mason Dixon line for 48 hours. She really scared me. Shaking her finger in the kid's face, saying don't y'all do that. I was wondering what ghost she was seeing.

ohwell, why would you call someone who misspelled a word an idiot or a jackass??? Or presume that "we" don't want him here? You should speak only for yourself.
Welcome Caryc, hope you enjoy Chattanooga as much as I do.

I hear y'all!! I just think it's pretty harsh to call someone an idiot or jackass or tell them they are not welcome because they misspelled a word (one that's really not even a word)!! And some people shouldn't be pointing out mispelled words or improper grammer until they have read some of their own posts. Anyway, back to being nice.... welcome to caryc.

OMG, I haven't heard anyone say y'uns since I lived briefly in southern Illinois. I do understand the concept of y'all being "you all". But I never could understand y'uns. Can you explain that to me? It just never made sense to me.

Caryc, There is alot of great hiking opportunities nearby. There are some beautiful waterfalls. My husband and I love to hike the waterfalls in the spring after a good rain.

Caryc, two things to remember about Chattanooga, not necessarily in this order: 1. You can have Little Debbies on Saturday but don't try to buy them direct from McKee Foods because they're 7th Day Adventist and will let you know that in no uncertain terms. 2. Always be on your absolutely best manners at any local costume store. Your life may depend on it.

Every time I hear someone say "Yall" (left punctuation out on purpose)
It reminds me of the difference between a northern girl and a southern girl...
