Ok....for the most part you ladies who aren't married to "Renaissance Men" like Bob or myself spend hours shopping and cooking a meal for people who fill themselves in 5 minutes with all the nice stuff you spent hours making... Then you're pretty much stuck with the clean up and takes about an hour....if you get help. Everyone is happy but wouldn't they be just as happy if you served Pizza Hut pizza.....I mean they ate it....their stomachs are full and thats pretty much it.
Is there a real pay-off in all of that??? Couldn't ya have just as much fun doing a picnic lunch on paper plates?? Is the end worth the process??
Really?

I actually do enjoy making Thanksgiving dinner. (I don't enjoy cooking any other time of the year) But Thanksgiving dinner is a tradition for my mom and I .... plus it's all my favorite dishes all in one day!!! But the clean up I could do without. Yeah, it's time for the guys to step up.

Every year, I get drug off to Huntsville (area) to spend time with my in-laws. I don't think I would mind as much if I had a Lap top that would play Wow. Then I could just ignore them all. Mind you, my in-laws are very nice people. Just boring as hell.

Not upholding tradition is unpatriotic.

We've had a couple of deaths in the family over the last year, so we've had to make changes to our schedule and location this year. It's gonna feel odd.

I actually miss doing the whole "house fulla people" thing. My husband's family is so huge, it's easier for us to travel to where they are and be guests. Occasionally I'll spend TG with friends in Illinois, in which case we just go out to a buffet. But years ago, the ex and I would host all our friends who didn't have families locally (we were 850 miles from our home base). It was really fun. It may sound like a drag, but there's something about putting in all that effort and going through the "oh-no-we're-outa-such-and-such" crisis and the "oh-you-brought-candied-yams-TOO?-now-we-have-enough-to-feed-the-National-Guard" snafu that just injects an element that's missing from the "I'm-fine-please-go-in-the-other-room-and-watch-TV-and-stay-outa-my-kitchen-and-I'll-call-ya-when-the-food's-ready" scenario that has become so familiar.
I hope everybody has a happy and safe holiday this year, regardless of who's doin' what!
