Just had a rare and entertaining opportunity to run on Signal Mountain Blvd. See, they weren't allowing any traffic UP the mountain (at least, no cars) and I happened to already be halfway up, so... I decided to explore and maybe see what was happening.
Too bad I was running and hence had nowhere to put a camera. There's a giant HOLE in the road maybe 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile up from the space house. I mean, it's a big enough hole for a car to disappear. Apparently all the rain from the storm just swept away one entire lane. I stood there gawking at it while some of the workers came around to pet Strega before one said they were about to allow two-way traffic again and I beat feet back down.
I bet there's some morning commuters that saw me going "damn! First cyclists and now JOGGERS with their dogs are cluttering up this road? What next, baby strollers?" Fear not, faithful companions. Had the traffic control not been such I'd never have tried jogging that section.
(though I have and would ride a bike there)

We might as well just park on Roberts Mill Road and have the crashes come to us. With the "W" almost down and the main road soon to be closed for a while for repairs the new "Main" road will be Roberts Mill Road. That will challenge the statistically high HUA Mountain drivers to navigate Roberts Mill while calling TalkRadio to bitch about it, reprogramming the GPS and screaming at their kids. Job security sucks sometimes.

Indeed, PM. Indeed. I suspect the tennis bracelet crowd (you know, the "married money" girls that don't have any job but spending their Signal Mountain husband's money types) will be having all kinds of trouble figuring out how to get to the best shops.

Once the repairs begin I bet they will wish they had more retail places up there.......

Job security sucks sometimes. Stereotypes abound... Perhaps there is a donut shop at the end of Robert Mills Road that you can hang out in!

Just walked up to the work area... it's not a hole anymore. It's getting rebuilt fast. While I was there they were dumping more rocks to bolster the road where the washout was, but it looks like they're on track to get it fixed and re-opened by Monday.

I'm not gonna be the first one to test it out.

Remember how many people wouldn't drive in the outer lanes on the dam when it was widened?

Signal Mountain Blvd will be closed again from midnight tonight thru 6am Monday morning.
I wonder if I can motivate myself to get up early enough to beat the traffic Monday morning for one last run up the hill?

I'm not gonna be the first one to test it out. Be the first.... It passed inspection. Six years from now after a couple dozen monsoons be weary.
