19th Century Medical Device named after Our City!

There is a new play getting rave reviews called "In the Next Room or the vibrator play." I heard the playwright interviewed on the radio yesterday and it is a historical play set in the late 19th century around a doctor who used this new electric devise to "cure hysteria."

Our fair city will be known to the outside world for more than Trains (although....well never mind)

In her radio interview she mentioned the top of the line model that was $200.00 back in a 1904 catalog.

A similar theme was, um, touched on in T. Coraghessan Boyle's novel The Road to Wellville (later made into a really mediocre film by Alan Parker).

History Channel did a surprisingly tasteful and informative series on "The history of sex". They did mention that the vibrator was invented in Chattanooga as well as many of the other things listed in the articles linked.

The book was great & yet again 'the' movie was mediocre at best
