For all of us who are thinking of going green, the Nissan LEAF is going to be at the First Tennessee Pavilion this Friday (January 15th) between 3PM and 6PM. The LEAF has been on tour across the country and is currently touring the Southeast. The complete details are available on the LEAF's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/search/?q=nissan+LEAF&init=quick#/event.php?eid=242811008151&index=1 I'm helping Nissan spread the word, so let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Are they giving free samples?
I'm waiting for electric vehicles to be reasonably available at a decent price. I've been waiting for that since I saw my first electric car back in the 70s. If they're still just teasing us, why bother?

I'm expecting the zeppelin federation to protest.

Here's what it looks like: Engineer tells interested Chattanoogans all about the zero emission car. The inside is fresh and simple. The LEAF goes 90 mph and can go 100 miles on an overnight charge. Charging station runs on 220VAC and can be installed in your garage ... Quick charge stations will charge from 0 to 80 percent capacity in 26 minutes, but run on 440VAC and only available in commercial charging locations. Should be in showrooms by December ... price will be comparable to a fully-loaded Altima.

1. Zero emissions is misleading - the emissions that would have came from this car instead come from your power utility. They're still there though.
2. If gas powered cars took 26 minutes (or worse, the 4-8 hours on that home charger) to fill the tank, people would scream bloody murder.
3. Battery life of 5 years. How much will it cost to replace them at that time? What's the environmental impact of disposing the old ones?
4. Why don't they limit that 90mph down to 70 to keep you from wasting the power?
Other than that, looks cool enough.

price will be comparable to a fully-loaded Altima. That would be close to 30 grand.

That's a *lot* more money... I think the Volt has a better chance at being successful than the Leaf. The ability to still use gas would be greatly beneficial.

Somebody can bring me a can of gas and I can keep going. No one's going to bring me a 440V hookup in the middle of nowhere, though.

Hey they put charging stations at starbucks so the folk that already spend too much on everything can spend too much on fuel too...

For an electric 90 MPH and 100 miles are pretty impressive. 20-30K is cheaper than a lot of electrics too. I hope they FINALLY take their place in the market.

Thanks for your posts everyone! Were some of you there? The LEAF had a great time in Chattanooga (currently its heading to DC to continue on its cross-country tour.) Special thanks to NewsShooter for the great photos from the event and for the added details. The LEAF's journey has been documented on flickr.com, check out the albums at: www.flickr.com/photos/44813421@N08/sets/.

Were getting there but still have a long way to go. Only people with more dollars then cents will buy this car. 100 miles on an overnight charge, not enough mileage yet. Good toy for the rich boys.
Does that mileage factor in playing radio, heat and ac etc...
