From an anonymous snitch, so it may be total bullcrap: Any Facebook employee can log onto any member account with a single master password and at least two employees were sacked for misusing the account info - whatever that means. You don't have to buy into any worst-case, conspiracy fear-monger to conclude Facebook security seems non-existent. It may be advisable to keep the truly bad and ugly off your site - e.g., scrapes with the law, fiendish break-ups, dabbling in occult, never-ending insults, nude self-images or disgusting acts with a cat. Potential employers, lawyers peddling slander suits and copyright hawks are trolling. A few with deep pockets. Could also be someone wants FaceBook's popularity to diminish so they can profit. Life's short and rarely fair. Link

an admin has the ability to see everyone's "stuff" always has.
THIS IS NOT NEW.... Facebook, myspace, even... CMF...
all the same, its the owners site, he has the keys to the castle and shares those keys with the people that manage it for him..

Makes at least SOME sense not to provide employees a master password and require they provide a reason in writing for logging into a user's account. Imagine a major corporation where employees can just query that database to read colleagues' personal messages any time they like. A "castle" with way too many keys floating around.

Didn't say how many keys. And I'm sure there are "levels" of permission.
ANY corporation, no matter how big, there are several people that can read the CEOs email
In almost all cases if an admin reads someones email its logged but only admins have access to those logs. C.Y.A. baby... [grin]

The Proboard software that runs this forum allows a number of levels of access.
The highgest local level is admin, of which there are only five, all of whom have been around here for years and have proven themselves completely trustworthy.
Global Moderators have lesser access - basically in the categories, but not any of the nuts-n-bolts stuff).
Moderators are only powerful in their specific category, though nearly all the CMF Mods are global.
And as a note, at NO level is anyone able to read private messages.
Second note: there is a level higher than admin, but only held by a very small number of coporate people at Proboard.

Didn't say how many keys. And I'm sure there are "levels" of permission. The Facebook snitch says there were no "levels of permission." This all may have changed last month, however.

This all DID change last month. There is no longer one all around password.

Would it make you feel better to know people like ME have had access to government computers for many years now, including, at times, police computers? Mwahahaha!
