Taco Bell founder dead at 86RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Glen W. Bell Jr., the founder of the Taco Bell chain, has died. He was 86. Bell launched his first restaurant, called Bell's Drive-In, in 1948 in San Bernardino after seeing the success of McDonald's. The World War II veteran next helped establish Taco Tias in Los Angeles, El Tacos in the Long Beach area, and Der Wienerschnitzel, a national hot dog chain. Bell launched Taco Bell in 1962 in Downey after cutting ties with his business partners and quickly expanding around Los Angeles.

When I think of Taco Bell, the last thing I think of is silence.

It's not a bell like *ding* the dude's name is Glen Bell. Double letdown.

It would have been more appropriate if his name had been Skitters.

The absolute worst in "fast food". They did not come by the nicknames "Vomit Bell" and "Taco Hell" for nothing.

My first job as a teen was working for Del Taco. (Anyone remember that one? They went belly up when Taco Bell came to town.) I still get a touch queezy when I walk into a Taco Bell. Can't stand 'real Mexican' restaurants because that over powering stench of stale oil, and knowing that my food is coming out of that, makes me nauseated.

Somebody on FARK wrote...
"I wonder if he'll honor the Taco Bell tradition by exploding out the back of his grave 2 hours after they put him in it".

Taco Bell isn't that bad. Every once in a while anyway.

I can eat twice as much at a good Mexican restaurant, have a beer and it still costs less that Taco bell
